So I stopped by here mainly to use the wrestling ring BUT I also got an extensive workout in as well. If you're looking for a hardcore, local gym that's open 24/7 this is it. If you're looking for a gym that caters to both "normies" who want to get in shape or for the serious strongman/strong woman, body builder, powerlifter, this is it. Its a no non-sense gym that also caters to the community and for those whom want to reach their fitness goals. You'll see familiar faces and people whom have their own goals that range from basic to high level.
It has everything you're looking for and then some. All sorts of machines, equipment, from the standard and everything in between and then some. And the one thing that stands out above all; a wrestling ring.
I do like this gym a lot but there's one big gripe I have with it. It just feels too tight, packed, sardined. For example, the area where you do the sled pushes, farmer walks and other push and carry exercises is not good. The turf is used, abused and ready to get replaced. What makes it worse is that the turf area is very packed with so many other equipment, very small, tight and too many people get in the way. Its just not great. On top of that, the heavy bag is right in the middle of everything. So if you want to hit the heavy bag, come here when no one is here. With that being said....
This place being 24/7 is WONDERFUL. So if you really don't want to be here when there's too many people, then you can come at a time that's convenient for you. Its very hard to find 27/7 gyms, especially 24/7 gyms of this kind. So that's a MAJOR, MAJOR plus.
Another downside is that this gym is located deep in Queens. So unless you live along the J train or the surrounding area or unless you drive, this gym will be out of the way via public transportation if you're coming from elsewhere.
Some people complain about the bathroom and lockers. Um, you get what you pay for so no complaints from me.
Overall, I absolutely recommend this gym for those of you who want a serious, hardcore gym and environment. Its not the prettiest (not the ugliest either), doesn't have towel service for those of you little babies who cry about that. If you want to get yoked, take your fitness to the next level, a 24/7 gym, this is the place for you. If not, totally fine, not the place for you.
PROS: -24/7 -Local gym that serves the community -Hardcore, no nonsense type of gym -Everything you need or didn't think you needed -Cool staff and mostly cool members
Cons: -The turf area sucks, too packed, annoying -The gym is a little tight -Location inconvenient for non-drivers are people not in close proximity of the gym/a trip by train or bus if you're not...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this gym, though itās a bit expensive. While there are many positives, there is one GLARING negative. The menās locker room is a mess. The whole bathroom needs to be renovatedāfast. I see some guys walking around barefoot or in their socks in the locker room and it makes me want to š¤®. It feels like there are rare diseases just everywhere. Also, a sink where the water doesnāt splash everywhere would be nice.
The other members are cool, the people who work there are cool. Nice selection of equipment. No need to fight anyone for equipment or wait. Lots of different ways to target what you want. Though, some of the machines are redundant and just seem to take up space. There is some new equipment that I would love to see in this gym. I do like the addition of the converging chest press machine. Check Brandon Curryās YouTube channel. I want the flat unilateral plate loaded bench press machine. He also uses this amazing machine: the standing machine decline press. I want those. Check the video āBrandon Curry Chest & Biceps Workout 4 Weeks Out 2020 Mr Olympia.ā
Edit: (June 27th, 2022) The menās bathroom was remodeled. There is a great new shower. New sink with no touch faucets. New urinals and an added toilet. I still think they need to clean it every 2 hours because guys are messy and some guys canāt piss in the urinal.
They have added some new arsenal equipment. There is some new machine flat bench presses, a new pendulum squat, etc.
New Requests: Take down the no shirt signs. Cater to what the majority of the clientele want. If a few people are uncomfortable thatās ok. Do everything you can not to turn the gym into Planet Fitness. There are so many body building channels to display on the TVs in the gym. Stop showing movies and stop showing women working out. Gym bros check out other bros. We donāt want to look like women. Showing men the bodies they want while they are in the gym is also a smarter business model than show women working out. This also gives the guys ideas of how the pros do it. Hire more guys to sit behind the counter. At least the guys can go into the menās bathroom to give it a quick mop every 2 hours. The women just sit and play on their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently visited Coliseum gym 2.0, the premier bodybuilding gym in southern Queens. I was pleasantly surprised to see many IFBB pros there at all times, including the legendary Kai Greene. The gym is equipped with top-of-the-line weightlifting machines, which is a huge plus for bodybuilding enthusiasts. However, there are a few areas where improvement is needed. The gym has a wrestling rink in the middle that takes up a lot of space that could be used for more cardio equipment. The cardio machines are limited and outdated, and the cleanliness of the gym could be better. The dumbbells have a lot of rust and the locker room is in need of renovation. The showers don't work and most of the lockers are broken. There's also some construction going on and the ventilation is poor, which could be remedied with an air filtration system. My recommendation is to visit during off hours to get the best experience. The gym is open 24 hours, which is a great advantage for night owls. The community of bodybuilders is amazing, everyone is friendly and helpful despite their focus on their workouts. The supplements available at the front desk are top of the line and the shakes they make are fantastic. There's also a microwave and fridge for those who meal prep. At $70/month, Coliseum gym 2.0 is a decent value, I just wish they would improve on the areas...
