Iâve been at Crunch Bensonhurst for almost 2 years now. Now all my family trains and has found a community there. The lynchpin for us there is trainer Grace Rivera. She has truly changed our lives with her holistic and customized approach to not only training but wellness. Our entire family train with her from twenty to sixty year olds. When I was deciding on a gym, I first shopped for a trainer. I chose Grace because, I mean, just look at her. Itâs clear she practices what she preaches plus sheâs also competed.
As for the training: Our training sessions and meal plans are all customized to each of our health goals and situations. Iâve had several trainers through the decades before Grace, but this is the first time I can truly say I have sustainable results, and the knowledge of how to workout and eat on my own. Sheâs encouraging without letting you slack off. Sheâs good at reading what you can and cannot do. Youâll constantly be reminded and learn of keeping good form. Sheâll help you build your abilities and faith in yourself. Sheâs also build a community amongst her clients. She encourages us to work together and keep each other going. Grace Rivera is really many steps above previous trainers Iâve had.
Aside from trainer Grace Rivera, the culture at this gym is good. The management is very proactive and it shows that they have well thought out processes in place, particularly Tanya. Facilities provide for a more complete wellness treatment than most gyms. For ex: hydro massages, saunas, a health bar/cafe. Varied and fun classes to incorporate. And clients are generally polite and share.
The only con for me and itâs IMHO is that parking is sometimes a scary situation. Itâs hard to see if there are any spots in the left lane from the entrance. Maybe a mirror on the building would help. But really itâs that clients donât follow proper etiquette. Sometimes people cut the waiting line by entering into the left aisle when people are lined up waiting in the right aisle. And some park in non-existent, made up spots and block access. These lead to arguments. Perhaps some etiquette signs and a building mirror to see the left...
Read moreTanya is a horrible general manager.
If your response was to provide âtransparencyâ it should mention how I didnât ask for a signature on a falsified document. I ask for an email from Tanya to provide transparency on the contract and how it wasnât broken in the 2 ways I believed it was. I mentioned why I declined the service after and how even then the contract was still broken. The service was far from professional, tanya was rude and dismissive.
I had concerns about the personal training program after the coach I originally signed a 6-month contract with became unavailable four months in. Teresa clearly explained the situation and offered alternative trainers starting the following week, but I no longer wished to continue since it would not be with the trainer I had worked with for four months.
Both Teresa and Manager Jonathan acted professionally, listening to my concerns and doing everything within their control before directing me to General Manager Tanya.
Unfortunately, Tanya was extremely rude and dismissive. She tossed a printed copy of my contract on the desk. I highlighted where I believed it had been breached, both because my original trainer (the service provider) was no longer available and because that weekâs 60-minute session had not occurred. I didnât ask for a refund for the payment I made 2 days ago but not to be charged further. Instead of clarifying the terms or pointing to relevant sections, Tanya refused to explain why I was not eligible for cancellation and ended the discussion by saying Crunch had lawyers and she didnât want to speak further.
It is disappointing to see such unprofessional behavior from someone in a leadership position, especially when staff like Teresa and Jonathan demonstrate professionalism and care. Following that interaction, I chose to cancel my membership as well. Teresa and Jonathan handled the cancellations efficiently, encouraged me to use the sessions and time I had already paid for, and were courteous throughout then entire process. Unfortunately, I would not return to a business where Tanya holds any...
Read moreI got a tour today, the gym itself looks amazing! Jayden was very helpful, only deal breaker for me so far was not finding a deadlift bar which is my main need at the moment, otherwise the gym has everything you need. I have my own deadlift bar but Jayden wasnât able to tell me if I can bring it or not. Also over told that minimum I can sign up for is 3 months, with sign up fee almost as high as the 3 months worth of membership, i donât agree with that. Not 100% if I will sign up based on some facts but hope this review helps others decide!
Update on first workout: They have 4 deadlift/squat platforms, however it is being ruined by Olympic lifters dropping the weights from over head lifts, so deadlifting is not pleasant unless you are doing deficit, itâs fine for squats, they also have 2 actual squat racks in the main area which is not bad. Machines are cool, mostly modern, only negative is only 1 adductor and 1 abductor machines for the gym, way too popular and way too much space not to have atleast 1 more of each. Good bars and plates, trap bars, no deadlift bar however 100%, Iâve looked everywhere for it. They have a turf area, racquet ball court's, protein/food bar next to the front desk. They could use more accessories for cable machines, definitely seems very limited on whatâs available. I like that the owner responded to my first review, however still confused how to reach out directly as workers in the gym donât really have answers besides for memberships. Still going to leave 5 stars âď¸ as far as gym layout and space, dance studio, just needs more regular maintenance on platforms and some investment in deadlift bars and cable accessories, but i can see it get a bit overwhelming when it is rush hour, as the space is not packed with machines either, so I can see people waiting and getting frustrated, so be mindful of the time you are training. Itâs not perfect but it...
