3 stars because my experience was not that bad in terms of waiting. The intake was not long. My process of intake and placement (in this shelter for the night) was about 2 hours.
With this being a shelter, I will say that the staff is horrible. During my intake, the staff was on the phone taking calls repeatedly TELLING THE PERSON SHE WAS doing an intake.
When I had questions about my placement based on the county I live in (via 311) I was told to asked the supervisor. When I came in to the desk and said "excuse me, the RA told me to ask you about my placement" she did not take her eyes off of the computer or answer me, followed by the awkward silence she nodded her head and said "okay well what is it?" I'm not one to nit pick on responses but the sheer carelessness, eye rolling, heavy sighs, in a shelter. It's not the exact environment to have an attitude in.
Leaving and coming back is a hardship on its own. I had to leave and get some items out of my car, upon coming back in I was repeatedly told by one security guard to walk to the metal detector, then the officer was telling me to back up, which is fine but can we get one solid direction instead of saying a and b?
Look, I understand it's a shelter for those in need, it is not the super 8 or motel 6, but the communication and treatment from the staff is disgusting. If people aren't being rude to you, they should get that same courtesy. At the same time, the team is as strong as the chain of command. This population needs people who care and are kind. It's a horrible environment for someone dealing with homelessness.
Pros: I got a bed. Cons: mistreatment from staff and management...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDont allow you to gave a comidations you need such as medically be able to access food when you can't only eat food in a "time manner". They also dont let you have your aide or have any help to medical needs that may be different to the average person. Bringing hospital discharges, doctor notes, and even having letters from their own personal doctors will not change the rude supervision during the after business hours. Simmons - a supervisor that's not accommodating my needs knows that my lawyer and higher authority such as mr rose said that I should becaccomidated but when it actually becomes time to have that accomodation, she won't allow it. One of the assessment people there was trying to help me out and talk to me. Simmons called her name and motioned that she should stop talking to me. Looks like a lot of her own staff including assessment personnel and security guards are scared of her. I should add, I'm a student and they dont care enough if your late to curfew. They will try everyway to give your bed to someone else. Leaving you another night without sleep..smh. the good security supervisors during the day work harder than they should trying to make everyone happy. But even they say they can't take this "on purpose miscommunication" anymore and all are looking to elsewhere. The staff needs to communicate with each other more. If they had meetings or was more organized, a lit if issues would be solved on the staff and residents side. Lastly, if there's a resident that harasses or assaults you, the officers with handcuffs and all will do nothing to report even if that's what you want to do. Dont feel safe inside?...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was there for a very short time. During that time I had the worst experience ever. I have a service dog and an emotional support dog. I had everything that was needed as far as paperwork goes. Angela told me I had to take my babies to a drop off shelter, after I met ALL requirements. She is very clearly afraid of dogs and treats any dog owner with nothing but disrespect. From the first day meeting her she, Angela was nothing short of unprofessional and disrespectful. I went there due to a domestic violence situation. I was told to go to her to get an appointment. She told me she did not have time to deal with that. On the 29th I tested positive for covid. Even though it was known that I was there for a DV situation I was locked in a room by the medical staff. The staff packed my belongings, under the direction of Angela, they cut my lock even though I had the keys for my lock. My sim card and phone was stolen out of my locker by the staff. Once my things were packed and the driving service was called, Angela left her post as if her work day was over. She came outside and was being very loud and unprofessional telling me to hurry up get my stuff and leave. I wrote another review on someone elseās phone because mine was stolen, not by a resident but the staff. This one is being done on my laptop. The owner responded with They were sorry this happened to me. While I appreciate the comment. Something must be done with Angela, her behavior as a professional is completely unacceptable , also I need to be compensated for my property that the staff there either...
