Read moreIt was cold and windy. I arrived early for 1 pm special tour of Gracie Mansion. The security guard called and advised me that a docent would come out and then she could let me in. Until then, she was just following orders and could not grant me permission. I am almost 87. I am past my prime for standing and waiting in the cold. It took the docent 20 minutes to come out. The invitation I had received indicated that for $25 I would receive a tour and lunch. I hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast. At 1 pm the fare was high tea. The food selection was inadequate and too rich for my diet. I have been to barbeques at Gracie Mansion and thought I knew what was coming. Now, for the good part of the afternoon. The tour itself was informative. The group was also given the privilege of going upstairs. The manner in which the historical society has preserved the decour is comendable. I am especially greatful for the young docent who followed me with a chair, so that I could sit down while the tour director spoke. When the time came to go upstairs, she heard me say that I would wait downstairs. She beckoned to me and said "I will take you up on the elevator". What a sweet person she is. Thank you for your...
