I just completed two months at Inspir/Carnegie Hill to recover from surgery for a shattered femur. Inspir was recommended to me by a friend whose husband also had done his recovery there. While I was still in the hospital, my daughter--and then my son--toured the entire facility to see if it was a good fit for their ailing mother. After the tours, both said they would not be happy if I went anywhere else!
The facility is beautiful! You need to go no further than the lobby to recognize that no expense was spared to create the atmosphere. The marbles, crystal, and wood alone are enough to take your breath away. I had a studio apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing a panoramic view of Manhattan. As I spent most of my two months in a wheelchair, I had a care partner available to me by the push of a button. I needed help showering, dressing, getting in and out of my wheelchair, taking my medications, and being wheeled to any of the activities and dining options. The activities included daily lectures, movies, documentaries, gardening, arts and crafts, musical performances.... While I was there, the staff offered "field trips" to Broadway shows, restaurants, museums, and a Yankee game! There are several fitness options throughout the day, as well as a rehab gym and swimming pool. Inspir has an agreement with Spear Physical Therapy to come to Inspir to rehab a resident. I availed myself of that opportunity. I alternated dining between a large restaurant on the first floor, with a menu that would satisfy even the pickiest eater. On the 17th floor is a smaller dining experience that overlooks the East River. Sometimes I would choose that option just to look out the window. On this floor also, is a wrap-around terrace, where I spent several afternoons relaxing in a lounge chair.
The staff is first class! Each member has their own expertise and responsibility, but every one will go out of their way to accommodate a resident's needs. They seem to always sense when you need help, and never fail to give it.
I was wheeled into Inspir, as I was not able to put any weight on my injured leg for 7 weeks. Two months later, I walked out of Inspir with the help of a walker. I will forever be grateful for the care I received, and to the people...
Read moreWhen my husband became in need of a memory care facility I could not find a suitable place for him . A friend suggested maplewood facility in Darien which is only 1 hour by train from grand central and 10 min walk from Darien station . My husband stayed there for over a year . It is an excellent place with wonderful staff and environment . However I was looking for a place in Manhattan comparable to Darien to be in direct proximity to mt. Sinai hospital . I had to wait few months before Inspir - a new Maplewoods addition opened up on the 22 March 2021 with some delay due to slow processing of license etc because of Covid . I moved my husband the first day of the opening. I was so confident about the quality of the place having met with the director of the new facility that I could not wait . Inspir has exceeded my expectation . The staff is well selected and trained, polite and caring . Inspir has enrolled several doctors to consult with various illnesses to be house doctors to make calls in the facility . They provide transport when visits require doctors visit . The architecture and decoration of the interior is superb . It does not feel like a retirement home but rather as a 7 star hotel . There are activities where people can mingle and staff facilitates connecting people so they do not need to eat alone if they don’t want too . The outdoor space is a great terrace filled with sun and is very comfortable to spend some time with coffee or juice . The entrance is super secured so nobody from outside can enter unless previous contact is made . My husband is feeling better and better every day there and could now imagine staying there for longer time . On the scale 1 to 10 I will give inspir 10. Ps : inspir is the first facility to have a music therapist on staff full time . My husband enjoys singing so last night he sung the duet with one of the maids who happened to be a Broadway singer and still is sometimes . I have not seen him so happy for a long time . Music is an important healer and I am glad inspir...
Read moreI cannot say enough wonderful things about this assisted living community. From the moment you step inside, there is a sense of warmth and genuine care that sets it apart. The staff go above and beyond every day—not only are they highly professional and attentive, but they treat each resident with dignity, patience, and kindness.
The building itself is beautiful, filled with light and thoughtfully designed spaces that make it feel welcoming rather than institutional. The apartments are comfortable and well maintained, with details that make daily living both safe and pleasant.
What really stands out are the programs and activities. There is always something engaging—from cultural events and lectures to exercise classes and outings around the city. They make sure residents feel connected, stimulated, and part of a vibrant community.
Meals are excellent, with healthy and varied options that actually feel like dining out rather than dining “in.” Families are welcomed with open arms and always kept informed, which gives incredible peace of mind.
A special note of thanks to Cary Jackson, who led our tour of the building. She is a true gem—kind, knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely sweet. Cary answered every question with patience and insight, and her warmth immediately reassured us that this is a place where people are cared for with heart.
If you are looking for an Upper East Side assisted living facility that combines outstanding medical and personal support with a true sense of home, this...
