Very misleading promotional and sales campaign. Moreover, watch out, many times the advertised price is completely different than what you pay on the cash. The prices are not registered properly in the system. You need to keep an eye on the screen. I am fed up being cheated on this store. Almost every time I discover new thing. Today I went to buy some groceries. I found coffee on sale with advertised price in big $5.99. I took two of them. Since I got stolen so many times before, I was scrutinizing the cashier screen and took photo of all the prices as advertised. At the cashier, the coffee price became $7.99 and the second one was $13.99. The cashier explained that the price $5.99 is for the club card holder, and the offer is limited to only 1 item. Please look at the advertised promotion photo that I took and juge for yourself. Honestly I believe whoever is in charge of this store/promotions and manger should be fired on the spot for cheating their customers. I’ll never go back EVER. I am also going to file a complaint at the NY General Attorney Office website. SOOOO UNETHICAL PEOPLE I did the mistake a come back to this place. Again another misleading pricing. The tag does not correspond to the items. Guys you need to get it together … Shame on you.

I give Key Food one star (as opposed to zero) only because the employees and managers are great. They are very helpful and friendly. However, the store itself, and the products are awful, low quality, and at exorbitant prices. This store is significantly more expensive than the Whole Foods and the Health Food store in the area and the quality is much worse. As if that weren't enough, they sell expired items, such as old bread with mold. If you don't pay attention and check every single item microscopically, you discover after a day or two that the bread is old and has mold in it (which is not noticeable because the packaging is brown, as seen in the pictures I am sharing). It seems they get away with this because they are the only large supermarket in 2nd avenue. But it is worth to walk over to 3rd to either Food for Health (3rd Ave. between 92nd and 93rd) or Whole Foods (3rd Avenue and 87th).

I was leaving a store without purchasing anything. A shop employee stood in my path and wrestled with me to prevent me leaving. Store manager Winston and another man grabbed my jacket and dragged me back into the store. One of the two men reached into my back pocket, that was empty. The taller old black man snatched the phone from my hand as I was video recording the incident (robbery). The old black man also threatened me. Police arrived, checked my bag and pockets to find I had not taken anything so I was free to go. I filed a statement with the NYPD identifying Winston by name and the other two men using photos and videos. Winston and the other two men are accused of assault and other criminal offenses. Head office notified and provided with the statement, video and photos. The videos have been posted on YouTube with the title NYC Key Food Customer Attacked by Shop Workers.

Overall you will shop here out of necessity rather than desire until Trader Joe’s come to the UES or another affordable option. I’m shocked to see google giving it such a high rating (3.9 as of today), but that’s why I don’t trust google reviews when making a buying decision.

Oftentimes the staff will blatantly ignore you, or just treat you poorly. It’s as if you’re interrupting their lives by shopping at their job. Rather than speak to a customer, they’ll yell over you to other cashiers. If you ask a stocker for help they pretend to not understand or tell you that they don’t know, rather than actually help.

More often than not I’ve purchased meat here for it to be bad within a day or two. Produce will rarely last 2-3 days. If something is mispriced they will either argue about it or take forever to confirm (take photos of signage).

In all honesty I will do my grocery shopping downtown or across the park more often than not to avoid this spot. 2/5 only because it serves a purpose and occasionally you can stock up on canned...

They asked for my cart (personal shopping cart) when I walked it. I found that weird as it seems like security was on an ego trip and flexing a weird ability he has to make you leave your personal belongings at the door. But ok, I allow him his moment. Then, I ask, can I get a cleaning cloth to wipe down my cart. So this was a red flag, as cleaning supplies should be readily available as we are still living in a pandemic. Not only did they not have wipes, but they seemed upset that I asked. Security asked ā€œwhy do you need that?ā€ And I reply ā€œbecause all your customers touch these cartsā€ā€¦.simple answer for a stupid question. The security said something under his breath, so I took off my headphone to ask him to repeat himself….he did not….good job tough guy (my headphones were off so I heard him call me an a*e but I asked to see if he’d repeat himself). Long review short…..they are dirty and rude. If you don’t clean your carts don’t...
