The Kent is a place where you can see first run movies for great prices. It's $6 for children aged 11 & under and seniors age 58 & older; everyone else pays $9. 3D tickets are $2 more. The real appeal is the Wacky Wednesday price: Everyone pays $5. These are the prices that you pay at the box office. If you buy your tickets over the internet, be prepared to pay more. I buy tickets at Amazon's Movie Tickets website. In March I went to see a 3D movie on a Saturday night. I paid $11 plus a $1 service fee. When I went to see a 3D movie on Wacky Wednesday this week, I paid $7.50 online. I must ask them if they recently changed their 3D prices for Wednesdays and if so, then they must make it clear on their phone and online.
Regarding the theater itself, there are 3 screens. The seating is okay. There are cupholders. The doors need to have a curtain or partition in front of them because it's a nuisance when people open them and the light comes in while you are watching the movie. The walls are thin, so you will be hearing the noise of the movie next door. Both theaters if you are in the middle. The cleanliness of the women's bathroom needs improvement. They need to put the paper towels in the dispenser because some people don't wash their hands properly and you have to touch the wet roll, which can fall on the floor. The hand dryer is broken. There needs to be a soap dispenser instead of a small bottle of soap on the side of the sink. It's best to bring your own napkins and a small bottle of hand sanitizer.
The food is expensive, just like every other theater. Once I made the mistake of eating there because I was late and ended up paying $7.50 for lousy hot dogs, Vitamin Water and chips. I strongly suggest that if you are hungry to buy from the many establishments along Coney Island Avenue. You can have Middle Eastern, Asian, deli or American style food at way better prices. I did this the other day. Since I was early, I ate it the waiting area, because I didn't want to get in trouble for bringing in outside food. The waiting area has benches that are upholstered with movie advertising. There are 2 arcades, in the waiting and inside by the bathrooms. If you want to watch the end credits you will have to deal 1 or 2 extremely rude workers. They will either tell you to leave, or do like the last guy who was yelling on the phone to someone that he didn't understand why we wouldn't get out because there was nothing left see. This was right before the cast of characters was coming up on the screen. There was a family sitting a couple of rows ahead of me who were upset about his behavior, but decided not to say anything and took their leave.
A cool thing they have is rental for birthday parties and movie screenings for a festival.
The Kent plays a major role in film history. It is where Woody Allen filmed the movie scenes for The Purple Rose Of Cairo. The reason he chose it is because he grew up in Midwood and used to go there as a kid to see the cartoon double matinee. Also it was available to rent.
I gave a 3 star rating because of the prices, the generally nice staff and the convenient location. I believe that there is room for...
Read moreJust finished watching "A Quiet Place 2" my compaint is it is a very sensitive movie no problem. The problem was a crying baby in the audience. What was they thinking letting a baby in. What were the parents thinking? Crying or talking all though the movie. I looked over and over to see if it was the baby in the movie and no. It was the baby right next to me in the back. It totally wrong that this is allowed. As you can tell it surely bothered me. The place needed a new sound system for years now. It made it worse by competing with a live baby in the audience. I was tempted to ask for my money back. Each time I thought it would be over the baby noise. It was not. As you can see my mood and overall movie experience was ruined. If I had known, I would have not even buy the ticket. The staff there must have no care for the customer or what happens. Theater no. 1. If anyone cares. The worse theater experience in years. The only time this has happen before was in Manhattan. After I had brought all the expensive food. These Latin kids. Didnt seem to speak any english talked all though the movie. Your totally trapped. I call on management that time. But ended up refunding my tickets. You pay your money. Its not watching tv at your house. Its a public thing. This theater get less than no stars for not caring about the customer. Beware if you dare pay to enter there. The seats are old. The sound is bad and the staff does not care about anyone. Next time its off to the city. Where I would risk bed bugs at 42nd St and 8th Av. Or pay more for a film and must use a credit card at 68th and Broadway. It seems to be way downloading a film is the best alternative. You go out there and risk your time and money. I should just be angry at the film. A total waste. Really bad ending. Like someoWsne stole it. The begining was confusing too. Going into the first movie like they have some lost footage.1. Movie was awful bad. 2. Place where it was seen was worse. 3. Paid to have a frausting time. About the movie: 1. Bad begining. 2. Made no good use of its extra star. He went in bad and went away bad. Star of Steven Spielberg "Amistad" Djimon Hounsou. Wait for the video. People saying this is a good film maybe is getting paid to say it is.
7-5-21, Update! Next time I'll just refund my ticket. You can keep the baby crying and the noise. I been coming to this theatre for over 20 years. I'm complaining about a common problem. Put up at sign "No babies" or you'll lose people for good. What idiot gonna pay to hear this disturance? Your not putting at least a sign is actually saying it's ok. I already have advance tickets for "Black Widow" on Friday, this time its at 68th and Broadway. If I was manager at your theatre I would stop babies from entering. Even if it is a kid film. Ages 3 and up is the limit. Old enough to sit down quiet. Refund the people that make noise. Leave them out. Your leaving the theatre unattended is not good. I didnt even tell you about the couple having sex right almost next to me. Get it together. Leave an complaint or comments box. You'll see what people have to say. Leave it where it can be easy seen. More than two...
Read moreOnly reason people honestly still come here is because of the half price off tickets on Wednesday but you can get that at other theaters too like Alpine bay ridge for a much better experience!! This place is disgusting! From the moment we stepped foot into the place, this one little lightskin girl they hired came off with the nastiest attitude cause we were lost. Mind you-their the ones who don't have signs posted but shes yelling at paying customers. They need to get rid of her it's bad for this place!!
The guy at the ticket counter was nice and the woman working at the concession stand was also very nice (hence why I even rated the place 2 stars instead of 1). I felt bad for them cause this place is trash!
The food was excessively overpriced! Like Manhattan prices, and I know this is a theater or whatever but it was unnecessarily pricy. One small soda was $5 and same goes for popcorn that's way too small (I've added pictures below). Just sneak your own food in. I came here for a popcorn movie experience but I regret it completely and should have just bought my own food. The theater rooms were the worst, every step you take your feet is sticking to the ground making that gum to shoe stick sound. (THEY SHOULD REALLY THOROUGHLY SCRUB CLEAN THE FLOORS). My feet were sticking to the floors during the whole movie. The leg room is horrible. Cramped while sitting for a 2+hr movie. The tv screen is so small, and kinda blurry. The sound system is just bad, didn't give me a feel for the movie I was watching which was Avengers infinity wars (and that's kinda the point though for superhero movies!). I was able to hear the movie that was playing next door from our seats. People kept opening the door while the movie was playing and yelling out stuff. Everytime the door opened, the lights from out in the hall kept shining on the movie screen.
Smh it's like a complete ghetto experience here!
If management was better, this place could have probably been saved. I'm shocked this place is still open. I used to come here when I was a kid, it was better then. But now fast forward to 20 years later and it's outdated, dirty, and disgusting cause no one updated it. And I'm all for small businesses, but this was just a DISGUSTING experience. **i will be continuing to go to bay ridge Alpine from now on for my Wednesday discount movies!! I don't know why I even decided to try...
