Long Island City is home to the newest outdoor summer flea and food market, the LIC Flea & Food. There are some great local food vendors there, such as Outer Borough, which serves up some great Taiwanese comfort food.
Outer Borough is inspired by the street dining of Taiwan, recreating the experience in New York City. I ordered up one of their Beef Rolls, a crispy scallion pancake wrapped over thinly sliced braised beef with cucumbers, cilantro and Borough sauce.
A scallion pancake was cooked on a flat top grill with all the fixings wrapped inside. It was served warm and cut in half into two large pieces. On a hot day, this roll was surprisingly refreshing thanks to lots of cucumber and cilantro. The Borough sauce made the beef a little bit tangy. I would have preferred it to be more thinly sliced, it was instead more like chunks, but it was still delicious and not overcooked so it was easy to chew through with the other ingredients in the roll.
The Beef Roll was a good size and filled me up. I’d order it again in a heartbeat. Out of all the food vendors at the LIC Flea & Food, Outer Borough really caught my eye. I’m looking forward to seeing what else they’re going to...
Read moreI think one of the best thing in this event was the perfect weather that day had. The 7 trains were not running but this did not stop me, of coming to this event. The only bad thing was did I arrive a little late, and some of the sample was already gone, but thanks to my yelp badge, was able to taste other stuff.
The Large beer garden had a huge line (course they had free beer) but at the end, I was able to get into the front, this was my first time tasting Queens Brewery, all sample, had a wonderful taste, and the garden was a great place to sit down and relax. There were a few tents, which offered free example; the best one for me were the fried chicken and the nachos.
They also were selling a lot interesting stuff.
Thanks Jando for this one.
PS: Queens is very lucky to have a market...
Read moreHit or miss honestly. Some weekends it's great and packed and has great variety of vendors, other weekends there's 5 booths. There's a girl who makes jewelry there sometimes and her stuff is really cute!! Some of the 'vintage' sellers are just crappy stuff you find at goodwill. Food is always good though, the pickle guy is my favorite! Beer tent is cool but there's limited seating so on the weekends when it's full we just have to stand to the side somewhere, which is not ideal. Parking is tricky so we usually take the 7 train and walk up. Worth checking out if it's a nice weather weekend, we've been there when it's windy and tents have blown over onto people. Close to the water and...
