I'm proud to say that Remix has almost exclusively furnished my apartment, no joke. Over 80% of my furniture has been found inside the store and occasionally on the sidewalk during their weekly Freebie Friday. Their selection is great with something for all budgets, and their staff are the friendliest people! Thanks to them, my home is now a cozy place to live and elicits compliments from friends when they come over (a crucial metric). I avoid buying new where I can out of care for the environment AND my bank account. Furnishing an apartment in NYC isn't cheap, but Remix has made it a lot easier with unique pieces (including art, clothes and kitchenwares) at affordable and negotiable prices. It's my go-to whether I'm hunting for a specific piece or just want a cute place to browse for surprises. You never know what you'll find, like the giant antique cast iron skillet I will absolutely take to my grave. I like knowing I'm helping keep furniture out of landfills and supporting a local business with a social good mission. They give away so much of their inventory to teachers, nonprofits, mutual aid groups, churches and other community-geared projects that need furnishings. Unlike a lot of used furniture spots, Remix updates their listings daily and includes measurements, fun descriptions and prices. Tbh, I stalk their social media both for new inventory and for the funny videos. More than just a used home goods store, Remix is a caring group of people who are actively involved in composting, community gardens, theater, mutual aid, social justice and more. Instead of buying cheaply made junk at IKEA, go to Remix!

Remix Market is amazing. My husband and I moved to Astoria with no furniture. I wanted quality pieces that would last and feel homey for affordable prices. Within two weeks, I was able to furnish our whole apartment with finds that I feel proud of. Our apartment feels cozy now. The staff is helpful, welcoming and friendly. They can help you find and match items with each other as well as carry things out to your car. They put some items out for free, which is how I got our TV stand, offer discounts if you purchase many items at once, and points for discounts on future purchases. Everyday, they get new items, so it's always fun to browse to find new treasures and unique pieces. Remix provides a list of delivery services to choose from which makes moving large furniture easy and affordable. I love that Remix is saving great furniture from the landfill. They inspire creativity too. I started following them on Instagram to stay up to date on new items, but they also sometimes share upcycling ideas, so I'm looking forward to getting creative with updating some of the used furniture I bought. They are a great resource, from a connection with Find the Thread Upholstery for reupholstery projects, to ways to get rid of your used furniture without the landfill, they can help you out and give you recommendations. Just ask! *In the photo, all the furniture items except for the area rug, floor lamp, and room divider, I got from Remix Market. Plus, I also bought bedroom furniture there, minus the bed and mattress. For the record though, they also sell area rugs, lamps, and occasionally room dividers too!

Great spot for homeware, art, and furniture, with very nice staff. There are hundreds of pieces of wall art, priced accordingly, and labeled when they can identify the artist and the medium. I am only in NYC for the short run so it’s not a good idea to buy large pieces of art that I would have to move with me. But I fell in love with a smaller piece that I am currently saving up for. Hopefully no one gets it before I could, it would make a perfect souvenir to take with me. On that note, here are some other things I love: 1. This awesome and huge round mixed media art that gives Gustav Klimt vibes. No signature, but it’s pretty cool. Would be a perfect wall centrepiece for an electric house. Definitely a conversation starter. 2. A mid century lady’s portrait by a Chicago female artist. It broke my heart for being in such poor condition 😢 there was major paint loss and the canvas was punctured in more than one spot. I’m not an art restorer and I can’t take her home. 3. This abstract mid century pastel piece was sitting in a pile but it caught my eye. This is likely a depiction of almond blossoms, somewhat influenced by Japanese depictions of blossom trees. Unidentified artist, but extremely well done. Happy treasure hunting!

My mother and I visited Remix Market yesterday (2/25/2022) and we loved the store. I found out about the store on Instagram and have been looking forward to this visit for years. I found a perfect mirror for my apartment and was glad to hear they were having a sale as well. Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing customer service experience.

The sales associates were blasting music and never greeted us or asked if we needed help. Then, when I found a mirror and was ready to buy, I stood there and had to wait until the employees finished their conversation before they acknowledged me. Sadly to make matters worse, once I purchased my mirror and told the employees I would bring my car around to load it in, an employee suggested that I carry it to my car instead. I am very petite in size and would not be able to carry it on my own and my mother is unable to lift and carry things due to a back injury. Even if all these things were not the case, we had to park 6 blocks away. The sales associate of course doesn’t know this which is fine so I responded that it was cold and I prefer to bring the car around to make it easier. She showed me where the mirror would be when I returned for it (in the entryway inside of the store) before I left. I said great and thanked her.

To my surprise, upon returning I find my mirror outside of the store with the store door locked. Anyone could have stolen my mirror as it was completely unsupervised and on a dark street. The store officially closed at 7pm and I returned to the store at 7:05pm (3 minutes after leaving the store). Would it really have been that much trouble to leave the mirror where we agreed it would be when I returned? I was very disappointed and saddened to have this as my very first experience at a store that I was really looking forward to visiting and supporting in the future. During Black History Month...
