Overall the food was great I’ve been here before and brought my friends over today. We were caught off guard by a server named Tenny or at least that’s what the invoice showed.

From the first interaction I noticed he had zero hospitality skills. My friend had asked for the happy hour specials and he stated “it’s on the menu” instead of kindly telling us them, he then followed up with “I don’t want to use my energy to explain everything”. As a server that is your job. After ordering we spoke to another server named Eiki I believe I hope I am not spelling it wrong.

We explained everything that had happened and that server did an AMAZING job making us feel welcomed and attended us the way any customer should. The rest of the night we were attended by the second server which we preferred. When seeing the invoice we noticed it was under the first server Tenny so being that he did not serve us we tipped $5 (should’ve been $0).

After collecting our payment Tenny decided to come up to us and ask us if the service was good and we stated “from the other server of course!” He then walks away and says “wow only $5”. This server has 0 people skills and should be retrained on how to attend the average customer. I’ve been to this restaurant before and this is the first time I’ve been disrespected...

My family and I order or dine in person at Dai Hachi almost weekly, and we’ve always found it to be good food at a decent value. We’ve had some frustrations with the fact that my husband is allergic to sesame and despite assurances that his roll will have none, he once in a while will still have an allergic reaction (thankfully not life threatening). For this reason, we’ve been ordering less.

However today we decided to order again ($98 order), and for the first time ever, the quality of the fish was poor. I called to let them know and the host was apologetic and asked how they can make it right. I asked them to refund us for the rolls (not the other items), adding that I am a regular customer. The host said he’d check with the owner and let me know. He called back and say that the best he can do is issue a credit (not even a refund) for one of the four bad rolls. I asked him to relay to the owner that he can keep the money and that they’ve lost a customer. The host was lovely and apologetic, but it doesn’t make up for the refusal by the owner to do the right thing for a regular (or any) customer. We’ll miss the...

Great Japanese restaurant with delicious food and friendly service. There’s a ton of dog-friendly outdoor seating available; there’s plenty of indoor seating as well and a bar with two TVs. I came at 8pm on a Friday night and it was pretty lively and crowded. There were tables available inside but it was such a nice night and I had a dog so we got on the waitlist to be seated outside which took about 20 minutes. It would have been sooner but I think the hostess forgot about us and, after seeing that there were tables available, I went inside to tell her and we were seated right away. A bit annoying considering I left my phone number to be notified when a table opened up (kinda defeats the purpose of a waitlist) but in the end it all worked out. We ordered a couple Asahi and Sapporo beers, beef Udon, Crazy Tuna special roll, and pork Gyoza. All were very good and the service was very prompt. I’ll definitely be coming back here again. Next time, I’ll just have to make sure to be more on top of the hostess as far as getting a table if...

Dai Haichi is an absolute gem in Long Island City. The quality of the sushi here is consistently above average, bordering on excellent, but what really sets this place apart is the incredible value for the price, especially given the location. I always order either the sushi or sashimi entree, and they never disappoint. The fish is fresh, well-portioned, and beautifully presented. One of my go-tos is also the tempura dinner, which I usually get as a side or appetizer. It still blows my mind that it’s under $20 for seven pieces of shrimp tempura plus a bowl of rice. Talk about bang for your buck! In a city where quality sushi often comes with a hefty price tag, Dai Haichi is a rare find—affordable, reliable, and truly satisfying. A real neighborhood treasure.

Been to Gantry park area so many times and only noticed this place because of their outdoor setup with food dividers between tables. Decided to try it with my friend and I'm glad we did and were seated in door with great outdoor air circulation. Their roll choices are great. Tried a couple of their special rolls and they were great with good portion. Never had a banana spicy roll and I'm glad I tried the one they offered. Will def order it again soon. With the weather getting colder as most restaurant now in NYC it would've tough to eat outside and this place though they have indoor dining is only limited to a few tables. Takeout definitely is another option.
