Our bartender/server was the tall lady with colorful hair. She told us 15 mins into my guest and I sitting at the bar just waiting that we needed to order at the register and that we don't get table service. And the entire time she wasn't busy. Just chit chatting with another employee.. They have a food/brunch menu but not fruits. Half of the items on there require fruits (parfait, waffle, nutelle toast, etc.). Anyways so got the avo toast with feta. Feta wasn't too my tasting. They don't use the best tomatoes. Tasted like beef tomato. Anyways not that good. My friend said she liked it just FYI. Also they didn't have much juices. They serve brunch but not oj. I asked her what she had,, she said she didn't know. "there are special juices in the fridge and the rest are on the menu.." Okay moving on.
After my friend left I went into the room to do some work. They have a pretty cool room that like 10 people could fit. Loved it. But I used it to do work and I closed the door for a bit of privacy and the lady comes in and goes "we don't close doors.. This isnt a private office space."
Pretty disturbed by her. The place seems great. Cozy. More grungy than I'd like or prefer but has an interesting vibe.. Feels like a sports bar turned into cool vibey cafe. Anyways I don't recommend. The lady plus the vibe, quality of food, location isn't spectacular either, and prices are not that great either. Avo toast was...
Read moreI've been coming to this Sweet Leaf for over 10 years. Probably close to 13 years and its still my favorite coffee spot anywhere in the city. I've been on dates here, have caught up with friends here, tried picking up chicks here, taken an ex girlfriend here where we spent hours doing work and then just chatting the rest of the time. I've seen so many different employees come and go, tried all the pastries and the drinks. All this time and I've never had a bad time here. Hell, I remember during a super hot day outside, they gave me plenty of cops of ice when I just asked for a small cup.
The coffee and the rest of the coffee beverages are top notch and the pastries--though expensive--are top notch quality. Definitely not your typical coffee that has the run-of-the-mill pastries.
There's plenty of seating here if you come at a good time, a great sized, dimly lit bathroom and a great backroom that I believe you can even rent out for yourself/group of people. Don't quote me on that but I think you can reserve it or something.
What I love too is that you can get cocktails here after 5 or 6pm. And again, they are expensive, a little ridiculous with the prices BUT--big but--its GOOD stuff. And the ambiance is just perfect.
My favorite coffee spot in all of NYC....
Read moreWhat happened to this place? Last year, I would take my mom here frequently after a walk at the pier. We were greeted, seated, provided with a QR code to look at the menu, brought drinks and placed our order. The waitstaff was friendly & indulgent toward my mom which I always appreciated. Thursday, I showed up, requested a table and was seated. Bartender (Maybe a waitress) Brought menus. She never returned. I’m not sure if a new policy is in place where I’m supposed to go up front & place an order, but maybe she might have mentioned it. I don’t believe in eyeballing staff until they come over and I’ve never had to. I sit quietly and play with my phone until they are ready. After a few minutes, I tried to catch her attention with my eyes because by now we would have had at least water at the table or a drink order put in. She was busy cleaning and putting items away. I waited 18 minutes with no contact from her. Eventually, I just placed the menu on the shelf and left. I rated everything 1 star. Food used to be good here, atmosphere WAS welcoming & service WAS good. I took my mom down the block to Skinny’s Cantina. They are friendlier, more attentive &...
