So, I work in the service industry and have 17 years of experience. I’ve ran 3 different hotel F&B programs, and countless nightclubs and restaurants. I’m currently the general manager of a rooftop at a boutique hotel in theatre district in Manhattan.
I share that to now say that I know the owner of the Ravel, as well as several owners of summer club. So I felt obligated to leave this review as I’d hope if one of my industry friends had a bad experience on my property that they would share it with me! We arrived and the front desk seemed lovely quick and painless check in. My girlfriend and I got to the room and things seemed great! We took a one hour nap and upon waking up, we noticed bugs flying around the balcony door and then noticed they were on the white linens on the bed…I’m sorry but this is unacceptable: My girlfriend, also in the service industry and managed one of the hottest venues in Manhattan, is also a full time travel agent. she immediately took this to heart feeling she had messed up. Again, I express that I rarely take breaks from work so a staycation means a lot to us when we have the time. So, we woke up from our nap, she snapped photos and a video (attached) and I finally said “my turn to speak to the front desk,” while I approached with every hope and desire that we’d work things out quickly and easily, I was half right. Hussein saw that we had packed all of our belongings up and had them ready she. He finished with the customer ahead of us. Please note - my girlfriend came down after noticing the bugs and was told “a houseman would be right up.” After 40 minutes of no one coming up, we packed up and went back to the desk where I took the lead. Husein then gave us a new room in the far tower, as was appreciated. I then told him “I’ll be back and this time I hope it’ll be for a compliment.” Unfortunately I couldn’t give him a compliment and was back 6 minutes after leaving - the keystone work. At this point I was upset; I made it clear that I feel for him on such a hot and busy day, but if this was occurring in my hotel, id have fixed it personally. If then have endorsed we sent a bottle of champagne to the lovely couple enjoying a two day stay here, away from work. We will stay tonight but not sure I’ll want to deal with it tomorrow and maybe that means switching hotels, another damper in my genuine desire to simply relax on our staycation. However, Husein made new keys and did walk me to the room, ensuring the keys worked - per my request. Overall the property is beautiful. I love Simmer Club, and I was hoping to build the beginning of a great relationship with the staff of the hotel. I now have to comfort my girlfriend and express just how much it’s not her fault. Yet another thing to add to the list of things neither of us deserve on a staycation. Lastly, I want to be clear about the bugs on the bed. They were in no means bedbugs, but rather bugs that were congregating by the sliding glass door of the balcony that seem to be attracted to the white linens. I hope something comes around the corner for a better experience tomorrow; I know how great a stay here can be, as I’ve done one previously with my NG friend and that’s why we chose to come back…is the hospitality doesn’t change I’ll be disgusted through and through. Kind...
Read moreTo start, when you arrive to this hotel the outside seems “kept”. That is until you enter the lobby. That’s when the SMELL hits you…….. of human urine and weed smoke/odor. I instantly saw how filthy the hotel was. We had reserved a room on a wedding block. I’ve stayed in other hotels in NYC but never one as gross as this. So much to list and pictures to share. After smothering my opinions from the disgust of urine on the entire first floor from the lobby through the hallway to the elevators, it just got worst. Mind you it never changes from day to day. So it’s wasn’t oops someone must have had an accident. Nope! We got to the 2nd floor where our room was and I opened the door- the smell of pot covered up with Lysol overdose fumigated the room. It was terrible. Let’s just say our luggage did not remain open in this room nor did we allow our luggage to touch the floor. We stayed in socks or shoes because it was disgusting from floor to ceiling (our socks were black on the bottoms proving the filth I could smell and see). No privacy in the room to the bathroom at all. The baseboards and wall have never been cleaned from what I saw. The room has zero lighting outside of 3 low bulb lamps (that appear to be from a dollar store). We had a dorm room fridge on the floor. Furniture that was also unkept and unclean. Even to the side of the mattress was filthy and had not been wiped or cleaned, the corners in the toilet area had hair and dost piled in them. The sink in the restroom was practically impossible to put your hands under. The glass door to the toilet room is a disaster waiting to happen as it didn’t line up so it would slam and shake- I thought this thing is going to shatter. The shower never got warm or hot (although the tub did). We attempted to call them front desk picked up the phone and it was disgusting with gummy dirt and filth- never been cleaned. It was plugged up, no dial tone, mgmt said oh just dial 0, umm we tried no worky worky! So we used our cell phone to call the front desk. Oh and booking a room for 2. We had 1 hand towel, 1 washcloth, 2 towels (thanks goodness). The soap dispensers in the shower were old and once again dirty. The only thing somewhat decent in this room was the bed (the sheets where the only thing clean in this entire room). A deep Amount of dust covered the vents, the lamps, the tile in the bathroom and so much more. Please do yourself a favor and book a room elsewhere. Do your homework. We couldn’t wait to leave this place. The only thing good was the company of our precious friends we came to see for a heir nuptials and the friends we were amongst. All had similar things to share of their stay. So clearly this is the hotels “normal vibe”. Hotel Ravel you need to do better- this place needs a remediation company to come in and sterilize and clean up. Feel free to browse a few photos we captured on our stay. Nothing luxurious, decent or...
Read moreI was shocked to learn this hotel is considered a 4 star hotel. We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel for a wedding and it is possibly the worst experience at the highest price point we've paid for a hotel. Check-in was at 3, our train got in a little early and our uber was fast so we got there a little after 2, asked if the room was possibly ready, it wasn't, was told an hour. We walked to a taco place and came back at 4, over a hour later. We checked in and were given our keys, went up to the room and housekeeping was still in there cleaning, had to wait in the hall with our bags. Why give the keys if it's not ready and why it is not ready an hour past check in? After walking around and the train ride in we wanted to rest for a little. All of a sudden loud base started to the point where things in our room were shaking. We learned that this was from the "Summer Club". We were on the 3rd floor right next to the door to the pool so it was incredibly loud. We called down to the front desk, they said there was nothing they could do as the hotel isn't associated with it and hopefully it would be done by midnight. We very quickly learned that wasn't entirely true as the Summer Club was advertised on their website and signs around the hotel. -Our bathroom sink didn't drain, you had to hold the drain up to let water go down, which isn't the most hygienic. Called the front desk, they sent someone up, he looked at it and said, I need to go ask something at the front desk and never returned. We called about it again and no one ever came. -When we got up after not being able to rest because of the noise, we found there was no water. We had to call the front desk to be told the city shut the water off, there was zero communication to guests that it had happened and no offering of water bottles or anything, just that they hoped it would be back soon. Around midnight we got a text that it was back on. -We don't live in a city so something jarring to us was the multiple cockroaches we saw scurry in the hallways by the elevators and staircase entries. Maybe that is normal for a city hotel but we were shocked by it. -The second day after the water returned, while we were getting ready for the wedding, we learned that there was absolutely no water pressure in the shower and the water was lukewarm at best. But even at the coldest setting and hottest it remained the same temperature.
This truly was a horrendous experience with no attempts of improving it by the hotel. I gave my feedback over 2 weeks ago thinking I would hear something and wouldn't post a review but that didn't happen so here is the review.
Do not waste your money at this hotel. The location is horrible to actually get around, while the staff were responsive, the hotel itself was an absolute nightmare. We will never stay at this or another Wyndham property again and will continue to share how awful this...
