Thanks to medical issues wreaking havoc with my hair, it had been a couple years since I'd gotten to a salon. My hair was all different lengths and in pretty rough shape. I also have had a bad time with stylists in the past cutting way too much length off. I like very long hair, and I've had some butcher jobs done on me. So at best, I'm on the salon-phobic side. Stylists lose their minds when they see very, very long hair for some reason.
After my last surgery in 2018 caused most of my hair to fall out I wanted to get some length to it before I started evening it out and trying to get it back into good form again. I went to Posh yesterday because it's been so recommended by so many people I know, all genders, all ages. Also, it's the nicest-looking salon in the whole area.
They gave me a same-day appointment. When I walked in, Kamilla came right over to take my jacket. I was offered a beverage of choice. Then Kamilla took me to her station and listened carefully as I described what I wanted - a very simple trim of a few inches to start to even all the straggly, stringy, wispy lengths. I didnt want any styling, not even a blow-dry. Just a wash and cut. With my hair in such a mess, it's too soon for any styling. I want to even it out while still keeping the length, so it's going to take a while for me to do that. I have to let it grow and keep cutting it for a while.
Well, she understood exactly what I wanted and went right to work. She didnt do a single thing extra. I asked for a wash, and she gave me the best shampoo/scalp massage I've ever had. Then she cut my hair quickly, efficiently, and expertly. I wasnt even there for a whole hour. The price was excellent, and I hope I tipped her well.
Kamilla was sweet, patient, and very professional. She gave me exactly what I wanted and asked for. I stopped her blow-drying my hair (I hate blow-dryers) and she felt bad because she barely felt she'd done anything at all, but I assured her that she did exactly what I'd wanted right down to the letter.
It's the first and only time any hair stylist has met my simple but exacting standards since my favourite hairstylist of all time, a wonderful woman named Dawn, used to cut my hair at Act II in the Village in the '80s.
I was actually pleased to see that Kamilla felt unsettled for not having done more, because I know that as an expert myself in my own field, I feel the same way. It's the hallmark of a pro to want to do more. When you're a pro, you want to do a great job for people, and sometimes the simplest stuff is the hardest to do because a pro has to restrain themselves from doing and adding more than the client wants, needs, or asks for. I could tell it was a struggle for her not to do more because that's her expertise shining through. But because she is also a professional, she restrained herself. I was very impressed and did what I could to assure her that she did a brilliant job. And she did, too. The best rave review comes from a happy customer who hates getting their hair cut, lol.
I'll be giving Kamilla my repeat business over the rest of the year as I go back every few weeks to keep trimming up my hair until it's all one length again. I look forward to working with her as long as she will accept me as a client. Knowing one has a really reliable stylist is a great comfort, especially for people with bad past experiences.
Thanks so much for being so great at your job, Kamilla and Posh! I can't recommend you...
Read moreDO NOT COME HERE AT ALL!!!!! I was seen in June 2024 and I came here to get a haircut by Dalune. Dalune was busy with another client so I had to wait a while and while she was doing my hair, the next client came and started rushing. She hit my right eye with the spiky hair brush that is used to blow dry. I didn’t say anything at the time because I figured the pain would go away. I even tipped her and just went home. My eye got worse. The pain, redness and vision was getting worse.
I had to go to an optometrist the next day and the optometrist did a bunch of scans and found SHE SCRATCHED MY CORNEA. It was Eid for me (which is equivalent for Christimas for Muslims) and I had to deal with this. I couldn’t wear contacts for a week and I was going on vacation. I had to take ubers to the optometrist because I wasn’t able to even drive with my blurry vision.
I called Posh Studios and spoke to the manager and she wanted pictures. I asked to be refunded and the owner said she needs a doctors note. It was hard to get in touch with the doctor at the time because I had so much going on.
I had to go on vacation and it was a busy summer so after I came back, I gave a call to Shaday, the manager, I gave them the doctor’s note and I still had not been refunded.
It was taking so long to get refund so that in October 2024, I told them I will just take the offer she gave previously: credit and an additional service. The manager said that is fine and said I can book for Dalune with the next availability.
I tried booking with Dalune but every time, they would cancel on me same day or say her schedule is not certain. I don’t even believe that was true anymore.
I come to find out yesterday that they all talked and Dalune said she no longer wants to work with me because of previous incident as if SHE IS THE VICTIM HERE.
At this point, I ask for a refund back because they keep switching up their words and stringing me along. The receiptionist speaks to the owner and I am told by the receiptinist that the owner agrees to refund me and says I will be zelled the balance on my account.
The next day Shaday calls me and says the owner CHANGED her mind because the haircut was fine. Like what??? I PAID FOR THE ENTIRE SERVICE WHERE MY CORNEA WAS SCRATCHED. They are saying that happened during the blow dry part not the haircut part so they can’t refund me. I tell them that I am not satisfied with the service so I should be refunded. It is not fair to me as a client that you guys keep changing your mind.
Then the owner’s NEW excuse and lie is saying they don’t do refunds when they literally refunded another customer in a google review.
I DESERVED TO BE REFUNDED. Not only that, they hung up on me while I am still talking and don’t answer my calls anymore.
GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They lack professionalism and human decency!!! DO NOT COME HERE!!! LIARS...
Read moreI gave it a few hours before leaving this review and I will say my experience is definitely half of my fault because I should’ve checked reviews and specified WHICH stylist I wanted and I shouldn’t have been so eager to get a haircut for a same day appointment.
Anyways, I found this salon on a Reddit thread for curly hair salons/stylists in the Queens area. I was looking to not pay the prices for curly cuts in the city. Once I found this one and saw the prices were great I then reviewed their IG and saw a few curly hair posts. Went to those stylists pages and was like cool they clearly have people who specialize in curly cuts. So I scheduled my same day appointment for a curly hair cut. I have fine curly hair I’d say it’s a 3b/3c type of curl and prior to the cut it was roughly at my shoulder or right above it.
Once at the salon everything was great and then I was paired with Dalune. I showed her pictures of the style I wanted, pictures of my current hair texture when styled, pictures of my hair texture prior to me dying it a few months ago, and we discussed maintaining some of the length. Dalune did absolutely NOTHING I requested. I left looking like a hot mess furball. I requested bangs and specified that they be to my eyes. THEY’RE ABOVE MY EYEBROWS NOW. It also sucked that in the beginning it felt as though she knew what she was doing until she couldn’t drop the scissors and when she finally did she clearly didn’t know how to style my hair and began asking me for pointers. She only used two products. I have no clue what the first product was and then midway through diffusing and constantly rubbing her hands through my scalp while diffusing she decided to throw in what I suspect was mouse. When she finally finished she said “I know it’s short but you haven’t had it this short in a while so you’ll get used to it”. No, I’ll have to get used to it because it isn’t what I requested.
Granted, I was too shocked to say anything and just wanted to hurry and leave. I was also pissed none of the other stylists there with curly hair did anything to help. I’m not sure what salon hair etiquette is or whatever but damn I felt hideous and no one helped out. I should’ve said something halfway through the experience or even at the end so I wouldn’t have to pay for this style I didn’t ask for. I’m sure she knows she messed up because I wasn’t charged within the full price range. I really would’ve preferred that if she didn’t know how to style curly hair or cut it then she could’ve told me and just scheduled me another day for someone else.
The only saving grace is that I’ve had the big chop 3 times so it doesn’t kill me that this will be the...
