Great day at the Queens Zoo. I purchased my tickets in advance. Simple process online. There was parking available at the park. I arrived just before 11am on a Thursday. Just before entering, there was a few people selling snacks. I bought gatorade, chips and watermelon for us to munch on. Easy check in process to enter the zoo. Once inside, the zoo was spacious and comfortable to walk around in. It was a hot summer day so the animals were more concerned with finding shade and shelter, as they should. But we were able to see all the animals in their habitats as we navigated the park. After visiting the aviary dome, we took a break on the benches right outside the dome and there was a very nice volunteer taking a break and she entertained my children by answering all their rapid fire questions. Got bit by mosquitoes there so I would recommend leggings or maybe bug spray. It was nice to see the larger animals. After the zoo, we went to the petting farm area to feed the livestock. My kids really enjoyed that part. Then we went to fantasyland Park for carnival rides. I purchased the $40 option for 10 tickets. Each ticket granted 1 ride. My kids didn't want to leave 😕. When they ran thru their tickets, we encountered a nice man playing the drums to some salsa music and he let my kids try their hand at some drumming. We headed out for pizza nearby and they were thoroughly exhausted and slept for the hour ride back home. Everyone was nice and helpful. Great...

Queens Zoo is another large zoo based in Queens, NY off the Flushing Main St. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite zoo experience in New York City for few reasons I’ll give here
Space - Very large zoo but the enclosures are very distanced apart (I guess to preserve the sanity of the animals and noises) but I think there needs to be more animals in some of the exhibits…
Aviary - I love an aviary filled with animals but this one seems to be lacking. There’s a very long walk which elevates into an arch that takes me way up but there are no animals to greet yo top, just a view of the waterway below filled with birds we’ve seen before on our zoo tour.
Conservation - I love how the animals are being cared for within this space and the trainings being done to sustain their lives. On this zoo tour, we were able to see the elk being fed, the bear and the sea lions. However, I think greater efforts need to be made to show the conservation steps being taken by the zoo, if any.
Entrance - the entrance from Flushing Meadows Park to the zoo is very long especially after a long train ride and walk from Brooklyn to the Zoo.
There are a lot of animals within this zoo. I just wish there was a greater use of space. The petting zoo is my favorite part of this zoo.
I recommend this zoo for all ages but please have time to do it and...
Read moreThis zoo is 3 1/2 stars. It's walking distance (about 10 minutes) from the Science Hall, so you can go to both places and make a family day of it. The zoo cost $9.95 for adults and $6.95 for kids up to 12 years old.
I think during the Summer, this zoo would easily be 4 stars. Right now, during the winter though, there were hardly any animals out. The atrium's gates were open but we aren't sure why because as you walk through the entire thing, you realize there are no birds to see.
We did see a Padu, the world's smallest deer, and he was so friendly...we also saw sea lions playing under the waterfall in the pool set up they have, and we also saw a bobcat...so even though we only saw a handful of animals at the Queens Zoo, they seemed well taken care of, and it made the zoo trip worth it.
I also like the way the trail is set up, bc it's impossible to get lost. It just loops around and they close off any other directions, and as you go along, there are signs for the animals you will see next. They also have a bridge with specific duck food to purchase (50 cent) and you can just stay there for a bit feeding them.
So, even though, the Queens Zoo is not in comparison to the Bronx, Central Park, National, or SD zoos, it's still unique and a nice set up, so if we were in the area again, no matter what time of year it was, we would...
