I don't get the hype that comes with this place. I would have taken pics but my phone was dead.
I did like the hole in the wall in the middle of nowhere vibe, yet we got the beef and potatoes empanada made of corn flour, the beef empanada made of white flour, and the dessert banana Nutella empanada. The two savory ones were very dry.
They fry them fresh for sure bc they are piping hot but the filling tasted old and there was just nothing fresh about it...even the dough wasn't as flaky as it should be. The dessert empanada wasn't sweet or savory, it was just bland and nothing in it made me want to take a second bite.
Perhaps we are just used to the amazing empanadas from Cali's farmers market....but no, come to think of it, we have tasted yummy empanadas in NYC before too...I just wish we could remember where.
Reviewing places are for ourselves as much as they are for you so we can now remember where to go back to and what places to skip going to again.
There are two small tables here, that were full. They take cash only. There is an ATM in the corner. There is hardly enough standing room to place or take your order, let alone to consider eating while standing.
Oh, I do need to mention that the employees behind the counter are very efficient, quickly and accurately taking orders. That was definitely nice. It just wouldn't be worth coming...
Read moreI have been there 2 times and each time received inferior service from a young lady that disregarded me. I am a business owner and I look for certain things when I am in contact with customer service retail businesses. communication is important. I ordered empanadas and waited patiently. I noticed the people behind me received their order before me. I asked the young lady if she could check my order because I noticed the situation. her reply was" It doesn't matter when you ordered because some empanada take longer to cook". I felt this was a snarky remark. she could have simply taken a second to check and informed me I was next. Then 10 seconds later she called my name. I guess my empanadas took 10 seconds longer to cook than the family of 5 people behind me. Suspicious. the first time I was there the same young lady put 3 ices in my order and I ended up paying for it. when she had told me she had taken it out of my order. I had placed a big order for my employees(about 30 empanadas) and I didn't notice until I arrived at work that I was charged. Not Nice!!! I will not be going back to them. there are plenty of hardworking businesses in Corona and all over queens with great quality empanadas and food that I will love to give my business to and who will appreciate me...
Read moreTheir empanadas are good, but the owner needs to realise, her staff is rude and really cheap with the sauce .The green hot sauce and the ketchup mayonnaise sauce. There is no need to be strict with the sauce when you want us to understand the price changes in order to pay your staff members. Why the attitude?1 sauce of each for 6 empanadas? Really. It doesn't matter how long you have been in business ,honest critique only serves for improvement to bring more people in ...not diminish the customers you have earned. You do in fact have new girls working the orders not the same ones for 16 years. They are not in fact , the nicest.
3/1/2020 Response to owner We were never told that the sauce was 30 cents, we were just told you got two. We would have payed for the sauce if she would have explained to us about the new changes Rather rolling your eyes and saying you got two is not the way you go about informing your customers we wish your company the best we decided as a family to go else where this has been an ongoing issue. The attitude is what's costing you the most, being king...
