Tonight I watched a phenomenonal play called 'Resurrection' regarding the Black Wall Street massacre at the American Theater of Actors. It was better than me and my friend could ever expect. I treated her to this play on behalf of her upcoming birthday and she loved the play as well. The actors and actresses did an excellent job and did our ancestors well. I know they would be very proud as am I after watching this heartbreaking, emotional play that was also comical at times. I wish that this was not the last showing of the play because I would have loved to see it again with other loved ones. So I am really hoping it comes back to New York City! So educational, powerful and moving. It was also a wonderful surprise to get to speak directly with the actors and actresses after the play which was a very special and humbling experience! Loved the narrator in the play who was also my favorite character. Highly recommend this play to stay in production for generations to come. We need it!
As for the theater itself, it was humble. The seats get somewhat uncomfortable after long periods of sitting. It's an old, quiant building and environment. But, in fact, when you go down the shabby hallway lit with flickering fluorescent bulbs, there is an amazing stairway to the second floor.
The theater itself was intimate. Not a bad seat. The set was amazingly well executed.
We saw "Safeword" - very well written, maybe a bit hasty and rushed in the last scene, but overall extraordinary. Loved the directing, acting, lighting, and music. Creative, striking, meaningful, harmonious, dramatic.
Definitely recommend the venue, and this particular show was...
Read moreMy friend and I were invited to check out a play this what first seemed to be a small theater. The interior of this theater is massive. With a crown jewel iron spiral staircase.
Producer/Director, Eduard Tolokonnikov, of this particular play, Baudelaire's Passion, is a genius. Actors, story lines, atmosphere, special effects. Actors passion and professionalism in playing their parts as individuals and collectively as a whole created an amazing experience.
This play was in Russian with subtitles in English.
Looking to checking out this theater for more performances. And absolutely must visit to expand our cultural knowledge in...
