Pros: location! Close proximity to theater district and 50th St subway station. Decent water pressure (not much of a pro but that's all we've got).
Cons: Everything else. I just read a review that stated this was a "no frills hotel" including "not a single frill," and we could not agree more.
The room we chose was wide enough to fit a queen bed and a miniature night stand. The bathroom was so small that at 5'5", my knees were basically touching the front wall while sitting on the toilet. They provide linens and give you a bath mat, but we couldn't find a place large enough on the bathroom floor to put it--it's THAT SMALL. The bathroom also did not have a fan, and when it's that tiny, it steams up super fast when someone is trying to shower. There was also only one bar to hang one towel--even though they provide two towels, two hand towels, and two washcloths...
The blinds on the drafty windows blocked almost no light, so after our flight got delayed and we didn't get in until after midnight, we woke up around 0500 to a light-filled room because there are no curtains.
The AC had two settings--off and freezing cold. We tried turning it up, but the room remained at a blustery 63°F no matter what it was set to. Not the worst thing all things considered, but it was about 100°F outside and the 40° temperature difference was a bit rough.
We got hit with a $50 resort fee when we checked-in...for a water dispenser in the lobby, a Keurig that they set out in the morning, and an exercise room that was the size of our miniature hotel room and contained less equipment than our basement home gym back home. Oh, and the "complimentary" wifi is included in the resort fee, but my husband and I each got kicked off after logging in after about 5 minutes and couldn't get back on.
Additional Pro--each staff member we interacted with was very nice. The one gave us a good pizza recommendation; another held the door for us every time we went in or out; and the one who had to collect our resort fee seemed apologetic/embarrassed as he explained it.
Bottom line--spend a little extra money and stay somewhere else.
(I attached a crummy photo for reference--don't mind the mess, we were packing our things up. There was also a desk/chair and my husband is sitting on the mini fridge--all shoved into the corner opposite the bathroom. I took the photo from the door to...
Read moreLet's start with the beginning, so we pulled up to the hotel. I thought the Valet parking guy will come out, and will pick up our stuff, than take my car. The guy didn't show up, and I had to leave my car at illegal stop to run to the hotel for a Valet guy. He came out and I thought he will take our baggage and take the vehicle away, but he picked up like two bag, and took off. We had like 8 of them, so all other stuff I had to take on my own, and he didn't even helped us, didn't even asked!
I left my car running, cause I thought he will take it to the garage right away. But that's not the case. He left the car running at the side street, and when I asked him to shut it off, he came back to me and asked how to turn it off. WHAT?! REALLY?! My friend showed him how to turn it off. 10 mins later, I went outside to check if my car was still on the side street. It was there, and guess what? He forgot to lock it! Is this really a service that you guys offer? At that point I wasn't sure if my personal stuff is safe enough, especially my vehicle. But here is more of the story. We went to our room, and none of the keys worked, we had to call lobby from my phone to come and help us. They tried like 5 keys, and FINALLY 1 at least worked. Lost 30 min of my time. Room was so small and looked so bad. old elevators! just an awful experience. I came back to the room like hour later, the key didn't work, had to get a new one. And it happened once again couple hours later.
Coming back to the room around 2 am in the morning. The door doesn't open. It took them around 40 minutes to figure out why the keys didn't work, even their master keys.
The guy was saying that they often have those issues with the door keys, and we are not the first one. I heard guests at the lobby that complained about same thing. Don't you guys think it's time to fix the door locks at least??????
Spoke to the staff during that issues at 2 am, everyone was not really happy to talk to me, and were rude, probably because I bothered them during their phone time! Manager didn't even apologize for the issues with the freaking door locks, all they said, building old, keys are bad and it happens all the time!!
Thanks for such a "great stay"!! WILL NEVER EVER COME BACK TO YOU GUYS. If I could give you 0...
Read moreWho the hell rates these hotels?! A 3-4 out of 5, REALLY? Perhaps if you're a female who's interest is being close to Times Square, or shorter than 5'0" these rooms would be alright. For a business traveler who travels with a reasonable expectation of comfort for nearly $300 plus this place doesn't come close to acceptable. Check into the lobby and a visitor has high expectations, exit the elevator the size of a coffin (do not try to get onto the elevator with more than a briefcase) and exit into a hallway that hasn't had carpet laid since the Great Depression. I was informed when checking in that I enjoyed an "upgrade". If this is an upgrade what would I have gotten as a standard? The room is 6' 5" wide and 12' 7" long. The washroom is smaller than the two piece guest washroom on the main floor of my house, I didn't know it was possible to have a shower this small. There are two information channels on television, MSNBC and CNN, no financial news channel or Fox News Channel (that's right, I'm in New York what should I expect?). Even the History channel is blacked out. Perfect for a female tourist! There are three electrical outlets in the room - 2 1/2 are used for lamps and the alarm clock, after five hours of travel I have a laptop, a cell phone, a battery charger, a headset and a data card all that required a charge, I found myself getting up in the middle of the night to switch out my devices so they're all charged for the next day-and that's only after disconnecting a lamp and the alarm clock. Forget doing push-ups or sit-ups unless your willing to do them in the hall. Really? What kind of a person would rate this place more than one star?!?! Can't report on the service yet but is it good enough to make up for the shortcomings to...
