When first I descended upon Black Iron burger, t’was a melancholy eve. Dreary rain splashed upon my brow in a torrent of angst and depression. But verily the sombre clouds were washed away as sweet hints of “Dancing Queen” teased my ears from the establishment’s exterior. We entered thusly, met with the warm embrace of homely scents… sizzling beef and bacon, the allure of crisp fried potato. A waitress smiled luxuriantly and had my companion and I seated. But ah, the food itself! When we ordered, at first I trembled with trepidation, for it was a mighty menu that encompassed my vision, full of options fit to feed royalty. I had chosen the Chorizo Burger, and the Aioli fries… along with a milkshake to tantalize my sweet tooth. Upon their arrival, my mouth was met with a symphony of flavour! Dopamine ripped through my neurons in torrid currents of ecstasy. Every bite brought down the unyielding hammer of pleasure, veritable ambrosia on my lips and tongue. To say that this burger was perfect would be a grave understatement, indeed an obstreperous insult to its absolute glory. Black Iron Burger, you have carved a place in my heart, and nestled neatly betwixt my ravaged arteries. E’er shall you stay there, for I shall return ever and anon to partake in your victuals. Thank you, for letting me experience what heaven is like.

I have been going to this place ever since it opened and have always had a pleasant experience. That all changed tonight. This was my first time there in a long time but it was my friend's birthday so I had to show up. When I arrived with 4 others it took a while to be approached by the bartender however, it was busy so I didn't mind. After 15mins the bartender finally took our order. We ordered a round of drinks and I ordered some food because I was starving. After about 30 mins of watching other people get served, I inquired about when my food (thai Chilli wings) would arrive. I watched the female bartender check the computer then put the order in. It was clear that she forgot. However, she never came back and apologized for the wait or admit that she had made a mistake. Ten minutes later, I asked the manager to check on the status of my food and I mentioned that it had been about 40 minutes. I watched the female bartender overhear and say "It hasn't even been that long." This was false.

The manager brought the food over about 2 mins after I asked him but the wings were served differently from what I remembered. It came with the sauce on the side while I was expecting it to be tossed. For this reason I asked the manager, "Is this what I ordered?" He said yes and pointed out that the sauce was on the side. I then said that this is not what I expected and he offered to take the food back and get it tossed. At this point, I declined. It had taken so long for the food to arrive in the first place, that I didn't want to wait another second.

The manager then said, sarcastically, "Well you said it took an hour right? It should be cool to wait another two minutes." I then reiterated that I said 40 mins and not an hour and then he engaged in an extremely unprofessional debate that to him 40 mins and an hour is the same thing. At this point, I said to him that the only thing he should be doing is apologizing and trying to rectify the situation instead of escalating it. He then took his bar spoon and started beating on the mixing tins that were turned over. I said, "Sir can you please stop doing that? It is extremely disrespectful." He then laughed and said, "This is my bar; I can do whatever I want."

To prove a point, my friend started to beat on her glass with a spoon and the same manager, Pablo, became extremely irate and told her to stop. Which was very ironic. This is not the behavior that I expect from a manager of a food service establishment such as this one. I have frequented this place so often and have recommended it to my friends on numerous occasions. I was flabbergasted by this behavior especially towards regulars. It almost seemed as if they were on some sort of substance because they were behaving so irrationally.

After a while the manager disengaged and my friends and I started to talk about the situation amongst ourselves. The female bartender, Ann, then came over and said that we talked enough and that we should stop talking at this point. I said to her that they were the ones who made the mistake and should be apologetic instead of antagonizing their customers. I also said that I am allowed to talk about anything if I so desired.

The bartender, Ann, was so aggressive and was yelling at us to, "Shut the f**k up or leave." We in turn told her to do the same but her response was to get physical with us and Pablo had to physically restrain her. We became very fearful because she was very aggressive there was no telling what she would have done.

I almost had to call the police but thankfully didn't have to but I am still shaken up by the whole situation. I have never been treated with such disdain by a neighborhood bar before. Ann and Pablo were extremely rude, unprofessional, antagonistic and unapologetic even though they had made a mistake. All of my friends were shocked and appalled because we go there all of the time and never expected this behavior. The other manager, who was not there tonight is usually very kind to us. Ann and Pablo need...

I apologize to anyone reading this review for not including photos of the items that were ordered. I practically inhaled my food and consumed my drinks without hesitation. Let me explain what happened.

My younger brother decided to make an impromptu trip to NYC to visit me on a Friday evening. With limited advance notice, I now had to meet him slightly north of the Theater District amid the chaos commonplace to the city streets at night. My brother was famished and insisted on going to a place with tasty yet filling food. I was annoyed and insisted on a place with strong yet well-balanced drinks. We did not have the same priorities. After about 10-15 minutes of becoming increasingly irritated from migrating to different venues in the vicinity that were either too crowded or didn’t satisfy our respective needs, we finally stumbled across Black Iron Burger.

BIB is the reason I didn’t return home with one less sibling and the highlight of the visit was the bartender, Khemali. Her cheerful demeanor, impeccable service, and attention to detail truly made the night worthwhile. My brother and I found Khemali’s food and drink recommendations to be spot on. We had the Black Iron Burger and truffle fries which arrived quickly and were cooked to perfection. My brother had a signature cocktail whereas I opted for a custom-made curation after describing my drink profile to Khemali—both drinks were delicious haymakers that could be described as nothing less than sorcery. Not a single crumb was left on a plate nor a drop of alcohol remained in our glasses. Peace was restored to the night.

With Khemali behind the bar and a robust menu that delivers, Black Iron Burger has easily earned a spot on my list of must-visit places in Manhattan. I can’t wait to return with friends and savor more of what this gem of a sports bar...
