One of Astoria's greatest gems! I started up at Yug this summer, after not having any type of work out routine for years. It was a personal goal of mine to start focusing on my health and fitness, as well as do something alone on my own. I started with the 2 week new member special and tried every single class I could, along with each teacher. I instantly fell in love with the studio, community, teachers and moving my body - leaving each class smiling and proud of myself.
I've slowly grown my weekly routine from 2 classes a week to 5 classes a week including weekends. Never did I think I'd enjoy an early morning sweat more than sleeping in! There are times when I fall off due to just being busy with personal events and things but every time I return back to the studio I'm upset that I even had to miss classes. I'm so beyond thankful to have Yug in the neighborhood and spoil myself with movement each week. Though I started for the physical benefits, it's the mental benefits that keep me coming back for more!
If you're curious about Yug and just getting into body movement I strongly suggest to new member special and the Stretch & Restore class with Veronica (one of my favorite weekly classes that benefits my mental health and always leaves me learning something new). If you're familiar with yoga and mat pilates definitely try Yoga Sculpt with Kate and Mat Pilates with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis beautiful space is so warm and welcoming. It makes me feel very comfortable and offers such a nice array classes of varying levels and times that fit my work schedule. The space is clean and has beautiful tall ceilings and large windows facing a beautiful view of the western sky. They also provide so many different props that help you adjust to the positions.
The instructors are all so amazing!
I especially wanted to share how much I appreciate Ilana's instruction. I have taken quite a few of her classes and they each have consistently been very calming and rewarding. I am fairly new to yoga so I greatly appreciate the informative explanations she provides with each movement. Also her choice of words used to describe the positions are very easy to follow- I usually have to look at the instructor to see what they mean, but in Ilana"s classes I can usually keep my eyes closed and really dive deep into the positions.
YUG Wellness is just lovely! I look forward to taking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe community is local and global. I love that there are alignment mats (something I am new to and loved) and classes available to Spanish speakers and Italian speakers. It is refreshing to have a women-owned and led yoga studio for Astoria and that the first class was free to test drive a class. Erika, the studio owner, is very kind and welcoming. I loved Angelicaās vinyasa flow class when I took her.
Overall, it feels very relaxing (like a spa) when you go inside that you would not guess from looking outside of the building. I would recommend taking one of the vinyasa classes in the morning or a weekend class to unwind. Itās definitely Ditmars Astoriaās hidden gem to practice! Enjoy!
Edit 6/27/22 ā I loved this studio so much I decided come out of yoga teaching retirement and do a summer residency to teach yoga and meditation in the loft on Wednesday evenings. The place and the management spoke to me that much!!
See you on the mat...
