If the department of labor or any government agency dedicated to employee welfare ever did an audit of the practices this place gets away with, parent company "B&R Salvage of New York" would have a lot of explaining to do. They have no regard for employee safety and very little regard for the Americans with Disabilities Act. If you're thinking about working here, I would look elsewhere unless you're a teenager and this is your first job. Otherwise you will be subject to long hours without breaks, unsafe working conditions, and egregious management practices that display total lack of care for faculty.
Many of the prices of items are close to if not MORE THAN "new". With the exception of the size of the store and inventory, you're really not getting any better prices than at Goodwill or Value Village.
They're not environmentally conscious either. All items not sold after 5-8 weeks are put into a trash compactor and disposed of preventing the items from being re-donated to another lesser charity or any shelters or hospitals that could use them. B&R Salvage is so greedy that they want to make sure they maximize profits by limiting senior and veteran discounts.
Also, incredibly easy to steal from. They can't do anything but report you to the police who can't do anything unless they catch you in the act and most of the cameras have huge blind spots. They do hire ex employees to walk the store and spot shoplifters but again, they don't have any actual protocols in place for anti theft except call the police. The employees can't put their hands on you or that would be a liability for the store. Not encouraging theft, just saying it's incredibly easy to...
Read moreI usually love this store. Yesterday 8/9/17, I happen to be in their area, I purchased $133 worth of items. After arriving home, I had thought I purchased an item, but apparently I didn’t get it, and couldn’t find it on my receipt.
I’m an 1 1/2 hours away each way, so I was willing to drive back on my next day off which was the 12th. When i got off of work at 7:00 the following day the 11th, i called and a really nice associate answered the phone and said I’ll be happy to see if I can find the item for you, so call me back in 10 min.
She was so sweet. I called back and the manager answered the phone. I told her the situation and she said sorry my cashiers are busy. I said well can I leave my name and number so that she can call me back. The Manager, I think her name was Tina (but not 100%)said no, you will have to call back at another time.
I’ve been in Retail for 30 years, as an associate, manager, and Regional Manager and now owner of my own store. How rude this lady was. !! Not to mention I was going to drive 3 hours in order to spend an additional $120, if they had the merchandise that I so wanted.
Oh well so much for Customer Service and a manager doing the job she is paid to do. I understand at the end of the day you are tired, but if your associate is a sweetie and did the work why would you not let her do her job!!! They may need to rethink who they hire as a manager. I wish I knew the associates name, so maybe the evening female manager can take...
Read moreI usually love shopping at this store but today was a completely different story. Today I walked in looking for a shirt for my son and as always I went to check your book section because I’ve been looking for a copy of The Godfather. I know that I can order it online but it’s much more fun to search for it and your store has an amazing selection of used books. AfterI found the shirt for my son, I headed straight for the books. To my complete surprise as soon as I walk downstairs, there is a copy of The Godfather right on the first bookshelf. I grab it and take it upstairs to the register and this is where it gets unpleasant. The cashier told me that since there was no price on the book he couldn’t sell it to me, I offered to pay the highest amount that you charge for a hard cover so he went to get the manager on duty. I didn’t get her name, but she was SO RUDE the minute she walked over and would barely even let me talk and said the people that do the pricing won’t be in until Tuesday, so I asked that since they couldn’t sell it to me, could they at least hold it for me and that I would come to get it and she snapped “I’ll put it with the rest of the stuff and if they get to it, they get to it”. I ended up leaving the shirt and the book and just walked out. I know it’s just a thrift store but being rude to customers that aren’t being rude to you is unnecessary. I won’t be back there to shop again. Especially since I ended up finding the book at a used book store where they...
