Having shopped at Taste of Britain since its opening in 1989, and having loved it for many years, I have to sadly share that I don't think I will be returning after my experience yesterday.
I went after-Christmas shopping with two others, and chose from among their Christmas selection two items I wanted to buy. Naturally assuming that all Christmas stock would be on sale two days after Christmas, I asked what the sale price was.
I was taken aback when the lady, who I understand is the new owner of the store, rather rudely told me "No, it's not on sale---WE don't DO sales." Then she laughed and said, "WE don't NEED to!'
I was so shocked I just looked at her for a moment--it's been a long time since a shop person acted with such blatant "I don't care if I offend you or not" rudeness, but then I mentioned that they did have sales previously.
The lady then began a tirade berating the former owner, which I thought was very unprofessional, and assured me that the store NEVER had had items "on sale." Not only do I know from long personal history that that is untrue, but I remember they used to have a "clearance" section at the back of the store.
I put one of the (Christmas) items back, and bought the other because I knew my son would like it and I'd have trouble finding it elsewhere, but I did so sadly because I was already resolving never again to shop in the store with personnel who acted so rudely and...
Read moreAlthough I placed order as directed on their website and same as previous order, weather conditions were similar to previous shipments that reached me in good condition, and I received it in same if not quicker amount of time. - It was delivered in Spring not Summer season. Recent order was not packed to their previous high standards, resulting in items being destroyed in shipment due to lack of appropriate packaging. More as a courtesy I contacted customer service. Reply basically contained comments about "Summer" weather, and did not even address issue with lack and quality of packaging. In fact it claimed they upgraded the packaging. Replied to their response to be sure TOB had opportunity justify their position, or cover any misunderstanding on their part. I have had no further contact. It is as they brushed the issues off, then decided to ignore it. In past I have recommended company to my friends, now I am sure to let them know to watch out for the apparent change in...
Read moreWell-stocked store. Great that they have Saturday hours (open until 1800 hours on Saturdays. I have to check what their Mon. through Friday hours are).
Parking right in front of the store is tricky for anyone driving a full-size SUV, as I do. Just park across the street by the railway tracks.
Purchased some pork pies and dry goods. Prices are quite decent. Store is kinda tight with just enough room to navigate. The 1500 hour shopping time on a Saturday was great for me. There was only one other customer in the store. If you shop their with your young one, be careful not to knock over items on display.
You'll get a good quality, brightly-colored Union Jack shopping bag with your purchase.
Photos and pork pie...
