Small but lovely area with lots of winding and intersecting paths throughout, with plenty of plants, and a little creek (I saw a snapping turtle here once). This is a bird and wildlife sanctuary, so please respect the rules of no bikes/dogs allowed. Dogs ARE permitted in the field east of the sanctuary though! The only reason I am not leaving five stars is because of the limited hours-- it is almost always closed, which is frustrating. I wish Norfolk had more green space. Read moreThe Weyanoke Wildlife & Bird Sanctuary is a marvelously beautiful little plot of land in the Chelsea district of Norfolk. It's hidden in a nice neighborhood, right next to a train station. The foliage and fauna there are spectacular, majorally each species of plant or tree is marked with a nametag, I spent the day with my girlfriend exploring and trying to identify the plants we know. Read moreFinally got to check this place out. We run and bike past all the time. Really cool little wildlife sanctuary right in the middle of Norfolk. Took the kids and walked around the trails. We got about 3/4 of a mile out of the looping wandering paths but you could wander more. We saw birds and squirrels and lots of plants. I want to come back in the spring when the flowers are blooming. There's a porta pottie if you need to go. Follow GPS and go bast the fence for parking....
