My boyfriend and I went last night for karaoke and loved it. We ordered burgers and fries, fries were VERY salty, and the burger came with extra grease. It was all delicious, but the salt and grease were really excessive. So, 4 stars for food.
Service was amazing. There was only bar service, no table, but the guys were very quick and super nice. I tried the Alagash something, Belgian style!
The atmosphere was really cool, lots of things to look at on the walls. The lighting was pointed weird with some spotlights. It puts the light right in your face, which sucks and makes you miserable. Not all seats had lights pointing at your face, but the one I landed in did. For me, lighting is a big deal as it causes me really yucky headaches. And it's not a big deal, but there were no soft seats. No cushions, the half booths are wood bench style. Prior to the karaoke, they had music going. It was just the right volume to fully hear, but not too loud to restrict conversion. A lot of bars struggle with finding that volume. They nailed it!
Karaoke! I didn't sing myself, l, not my thing. But my boyfriend loved it. He sang a few songs. The crowd was interactive, and there were some really great singers who probably should do a little more than just karaoke. We...
Read moreUnder new ownership. They've cleaned the place up inside and out. The exterior has been redone with brick and it looks great. The pool room is empty and no longer smells like marijuana. Not sure what plans they have for as it's wasted space if they don't. Also the restrooms have been renovated and look better than they ever have.
I've seen a couple of bands there as well and the ridiculous cover charges haven't been present either either time. The Taphouse is the original location in Ghent / Downtown to have micro brews starting all the way back in the early 90's and while just about everyone else does now to the beer selection is still pretty good. They really shine with the seasonal products.
The one thing I haven't done yet is have a have a meal yet so I don't have anything to say regarding the menu and whether or not it's been overhauled, however I plan to do that soon. I'm happy to see the changes going into the place and hope...
Read moreThis place used to be my home away from home. I guess it’s been under new management for a while. We were worried that it would be crowded, since it was Saturday night at 8 p.m., but there were only 2 other visitors seated inside. Menu used to be electric and intriguing, with a small section that changed with seasonal specials. It would draw you back to see what new items were available. And the kitchen staff was excellent and experienced. The new menu is standard pub food, with no imagination. The waitress didn’t tell us about the specials, and the windows were so dirty, that we didn’t see them until after our food had been brought to us. $7 fried pickles - This was not a basket of fried pickle chips, but 2 skewers with 5, 1/2” slices, that were skewered sideways, battered, and fired. The batter was excellent in flavor and texture, but the slices were too thick to enjoy, and not worth the price. I’d rather have...
