I called in to the the Old Virginia Ham Shop to place my order and find out when my ham would be delivered as it was going to Texas (12/18). Online they offer free priority shipping on orders above $50, I ordered a $130 ham and they would not honor the free shipping, I said ok I still need the ham so I'll pay it. She estimated shipping would be $20 so I figured it would come out anywhere between $20-$30 for shipping. The following day around 1pm I see a charge for $200, checked my email no receipt or tracking. When I still didn't have a receipt around 4pm I called to ask why I was charged so much and where the receipt and tracking were. She stated that they did 2 day (Some express form of shipping, may or may not have been 2 day) because that was the only way it would get there by Christmas. I had explicitly asked to use priority shipping and that I was not concerned whether or not it arrived before Christmas, she begged to differ and stated that she recalled hearing me talk to her associate the day prior and that I had requested it there by Christmas. Unless the call was done on speaker she only heard the employees side who was talking because I was explicit in not wanting to pay expedited shipping. None of this is really that big of a deal. On the following day (12/20) I had to call again to request the tracking number which was finally texted to me, still no receipt. Somewhat poor customer service but understandable considering its the holidays. On sunday (12/22) I checked my bank account and noticed a second charge from the Old Virginia Ham shop for $196, hmm know this is getting ridiculous. I called and left a voicemail immediately notifying them of the additional charge. I received a call on 12/23 stating they would be issuing a refund and they were sorry. Today, 12/31, I have still not received my refund, their additional charge caused a separate returned payment which cost me additional $50 (interest for a CC balance that otherwise would have been paid). So at this point I have paid $450 for 1 ham, outrageous. I spoke again to Susan today who at this point is quite familiar with me and the situation. She stated that their policy is to process refunds on the 1st of the month. I gave her a quick synopsis of my experience with the hope that she would offer some other monetary form reimbursement for my experience, no such luck. This ranks as some of the poorest customer service I have ever experienced. Dana this is absurd. Would get no stars but you have to...
Read moreWe visited the Norfolk store on September 6 or 7to buy a leg of uncooked Virginia Country ham which we took back to Canada. We were given the only whole ham that was in the display case. We prepared the ham for Thanksgiving (October 9, 2017), but after all the work, the ham had a very pronounced rancid after taste. We had to throw the whole leg away. I suspect that the ham was old as the sack cover looked a bit dingy and it was stained. I should have insisted on getting a new stock. I will stick to genuine Smithfield ham in the future and take the time to go to the Smithfield Marketplace store. I never had any problems with their...

The people working there were polite, efficient and helpful. It was busy when I was there but there was plenty of help so the wait was less than 5 minutes. I'll...
