Food were delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely a must visit place if you are in the area. We started with get the grilled portabella. This appetizer was delicious, great start to the meal. It had crostinis topped with the marinated portabellas, sautéed spinach, onions, peppers, tomatoes, sun-dried tomato pesto, and provolone. The flavor was well balanced, perfectly seasoned. Salmon, Shrimp & grits was amazing. This dish epitomized the Umami flavor. When I ordered this dish, the server asked at what temperature I wanted my salmon. I was aback by the question, first time ever been ask that about salmon. I knew then that there is a real chef that is passionate about food. Salmon was perfectly seared and cooked to my liking. It was delicious with just a squeeze of lemon juice. The cheesy grit was paired with sautéed shrimps, andouille sausage, caramelizad onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon Ale sauce. The grit was smooth and light even though it was cheesy. The sauce was umami, complimented the shrimp and sausage so well. You must try this dish!!! Famous meatloaf had a great texture, perfectly seasoned, and juicy. It’s the best meatloaf I had so far. I was impressed by its flavor and texture. It came with onion rings, cornbread, string beans, and mashed potatoes; they were all delicious as well. Garden veggie Burger was topped with melted provolone cheese and sun-dried tomato aioli. The flavor was again delicious and it had a nice bite into it. It came with the house salad; I like the home-made croutons. This will be my go-to brunch spot.

As a visitor from California, I had no idea what to expect when I planned a lunch for our multigenerational group of six at No Frill Bar & Grill. But after our fantastic meal, I can confidently recommend it to everyone! The restaurant doesn't take reservations, so for large parties, I suggest arriving before peak hours. We arrived at 11:30am on a Monday, and our server, Savanah, was attentive and accommodating throughout our meal. My 86-year-old uncle has specific requests (e.g., extra cocktail napkins, a bowl of lemons for his iced tea, and separate checks), and Savanah handled them all without hesitation. I saw many pictures of the club sandwich ($15.99) online, so I had to try it. I loved the unique addition of corned beef, which was flavorful and filling. I skipped breakfast that day, so I was quite hungry, but I still couldn't finish the entire sandwich. The pasta salad side (included in the price) was delicious. There are about 10 sides to choose from. My wife ordered the smoked salmon BLT ($16.59), which she also raved about. She couldn't finish it either. The interior of No Frills is eclectic and visually appealing. I'm not sure where they get their artwork, but it's well-done, thought-provoking, and provides something to look at while you wait for your food, which doesn't take long thanks to the excellent service.

I visited this place about a month ago and absolutely loved it! I really didn't know what to expect coming here but I saw how diverse their menu was and how delicious everything sounded, so I decided to give it a try. The staff were all so amazing and friendly, also very attentive. Our waiter was very quick and always checked up on us even though it was very busy in there. The food didn't take long to come out either! I had the pita with the tuna steaks and then I had the potato cheese gratin, both of which were very good! It was seasoned to perfection and had just the right texture. Not to mention that the prices were very reasonable and the portion size was good! I definitely can't wait to visit this place again. Absolutely loved it and the atmosphere! Would be great for a date night, girls night, or if you just want to treat yourself to a good meal! Update: I visited again and fell in love all over again! We had just an amazing experience starting from the time we came in to the time we left! Our server was amazing! I tried the salmon meal this time(which is new) and loved it! I also tried the cornbread for the first time and was so impressed! It was truly some good southern style cornbread!! I can't wait to come back here and try the other items on the menu!

The food at this place is no good. I would say it was terrible, but I can acknowledge that the sandwich that my boyfriend got was palatable, though greasy, and our appetizer was palatable, although very heavily covered in melted cheese and oil. However, the French onion soup (pictured below) was not really edible. If I were starving I suppose would have eaten it. As it was, I was only hungry, and after a few bites I couldn't go on. The cheese/"crouton" layer was about an inch thick, and below it was a thin grey broth with translucent onions. None of the onions had any caramelization or color (and they were not cooked through), and as a result the soup had no flavor, apart from whatever gave that greyish broth its slight amount of saltiness. I tried to avoid the cheese/bread layer, because I'd gotten the soup in the hope to have something relatively healthy, but I tasted it--the bread was not a crouton--there was no crunch or browning--and who knows what kind of cheese was used. It was flavorless. Also note: two random kindey beans made it in to the soup? From what I can see, this kitchen's philosophy is just to pile cheese on whatever they're serving and hope no one will notice that it's bland and badly prepared.

Other restaurants in Hampton Roads, take notes. THIS is how you apply sound dampening in a restaurant! Subtle, well disguised, and perfectly implemented. It was a packed house when we arrived; but you would have never noticed if you didn’t look around because it wasn’t loud. Most restaurants around town are horrendously loud. Not this place! Amazing what proper planning and consideration can do to improve an environment. To say this place has amazing service is an understatement! I’ve had longer wait times in the Chick-fil-A drive thru. It’s insane. We were immediately sat (albeit at a tiny table, which they offered to move us from as soon as they realized we were ordering an appetizer, we declined because we knew we could make it work.) the appetizer, hummus with pita chips, was really good and came with a variety of items to mix in. It came out as quickly as our drinks! Which were also faster than we were expecting. Fair warning, it’s a HUGE portion, so maybe not a great option for a table of 2, unless you want leftovers. Lastly, our lunch, buffalo shrimp sub and a club; were outstanding and came out before we could get through half of the hummus! We will be back to try out the rest of the menu!

No Frill Grill is a great spot for a delicious bite while enjoying something from the bar. We went on a Friday during Happy Hour. My oldest got it in his head that we were going to Ynot Pizza across the street, so the evening began with crying about wanting pizza. Olivia did a great job of diffusing the meltdown with pita chips coated in basil, oregano, and parmesan cheese. The soup special was potato & cabbage with chorizo. The broth was tomato in base. Very yummy soup. The Buffalo Shrimp sub had a decent amount of fried shrimp coated in a decently spicy sauce. The raw purple onions are a little abrasive. Pickled onions would be much better with the sandwich. The cheeseburger was juicy and came with a side of sauteed spinach that was out of this world. We would actually return to no frill just for the sauteed spinach. The kids chicken tenders are made in house and are slightly between a nugget size and an actual full sized finger. Happy Hour well drinks are $3.
