Food were delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely a must visit place if you are in the area.
We started with get the grilled portabella. This appetizer was delicious, great start to the meal. It had crostinis topped with the marinated portabellas, sautéed spinach, onions, peppers, tomatoes, sun-dried tomato pesto, and provolone. The flavor was well balanced, perfectly seasoned.
Salmon, Shrimp & grits was amazing. This dish epitomized the Umami flavor. When I ordered this dish, the server asked at what temperature I wanted my salmon. I was aback by the question, first time ever been ask that about salmon. I knew then that there is a real chef that is passionate about food. Salmon was perfectly seared and cooked to my liking. It was delicious with just a squeeze of lemon juice. The cheesy grit was paired with sautéed shrimps, andouille sausage, caramelizad onions, tomatoes, and spinach simmered in Norfolk Canyon Ale sauce. The grit was smooth and light even though it was cheesy. The sauce was umami, complimented the shrimp and sausage so well. You must try this dish!!!
Famous meatloaf had a great texture, perfectly seasoned, and juicy. It’s the best meatloaf I had so far. I was impressed by its flavor and texture. It came with onion rings, cornbread, string beans, and mashed potatoes; they were all delicious as well.
Garden veggie Burger was topped with melted provolone cheese and sun-dried tomato aioli. The flavor was again delicious and it had a nice bite into it. It came with the house salad; I like the home-made croutons.
This will be my go-to...
Read moreSo, I'm in Norfolk and I've got to drive back to Richmond and it's rush hour and i DON'T want to deal with the traffic. Google maps tells me that NFB&G is a good match for me.
Sorry, but Google was wrong this time. If you like this place and have given good reviews, well, to each their own. If you haven't been there, yet, you might want to try somewhere else.
The place was fairly crowded, but not packed, and I was seated immediately. And that was about it for having a nice respite.
I'll say, I did have plenty of time to enjoy the interesting art work...
As for the food, well, that's another story. I ordered a garden salad, cup of chili, and a tuna melt with pasta.
The salad was fresh and crunchy, but truly no frills. The bean sprouts looked like they were thrown on as an afterthought. The single bite of chili I had had no taste. None. Whatsoever. And it was cold. When I put the shredded cheese on it, the cheese didn't even begin to melt. And it took more than a couple attempts to get my waitress's attention to remove it from the table.
The tuna melt? It was basically a soggy mess. I couldn't pick it up. I ended up scraping what appeared to be tuna off the wet bread. And that wasn't very tasty.
The pasta? It could not have had more garlic if they had tried. Almost inedible.
And my last refill of unsweetened ice tea? Yeah, you know by now that it was, yep, sweetened.
Other than the salad and artwork, I can't really say much about the place. Other than I went once. Your...
Read moreUpdated 8.14.24 Traveled nearly 3.5 hours to visit a family member in the hospital and this was my first stop for a meal to eat at the hospital. They tied my bag so ridiculously tight that I couldn't even get it opened. Finally tore the bag open and had to walk around the hospital with all the containers in addition to my personal stuff. I got frustrated and just threw $51 worth of food in the trash can. Thank you.
Ammendment!!! Shua just made my trip back here worthwhile. I am grateful he read my review and reached out to me. Now, I can look forward to coming back here next time I'm back in town. Thank you, Shua for listening to your customers and being concerned! I will be back!! #SecondTimeAround 👍👍👍
Disappointed. Since I no longer live here, I was looking forward to eating here. After being at Norfolk General all day, I was hungry. I ordered my meal to go over the phone and couldn't wait to eat. Not only did I ride around for 12minutes for a park, when I got inside, I was never acknowledged. Though some staff were busy, two of them looked at me and never greeted me. The other walked by me, said excuse me but never said "ma'am we will be right with you." Even if it weren't him who would actually help me, it would have been nice to know I wasn't being ignored. Needless to say, I walked out after waiting and feeling like I...
