This review is a bit overdue, but I assure you it's not because our experience is far from our thoughts!
We are a young couple who stayed at The North Bend Motel for the first time last August. We had heard good things about it, and were looking for a nice place to stay in town during the Twin Peaks Festival that we attend annually. My first experience with the staff of the motel was during the call I made to make the reservation a few months in advance; as lodgings book up very quickly during that time of year. It was about 9am ECT, and I stupidly neglected to note the time difference for the west coast. However, the man who answered the telephone identified himself as the owner, Mr. Lee Starks, and I had awakened him, but he didn't terribly mind. He was friendly and we chatted a bit as I made our reservation, and found ourselves to be fellow New Yorkers. He thanked me as I once again apologized for waking him up, and said he appreciated our business. When we arrived to the motel rather late on the first day of our vacation, he was once again there for us at inconvenient hours to check us in, chat us up, and make sure we had what we needed and knew the lay of the land a bit. Now, mind you, The North Bend Motel is no Ritz Carlton. We weren't there to spend a lot of time in our room watching television and whatnot. We just required a comfortable, reasonably priced place to call home for the next week. And this place exceeded our expectations. If you're looking for someplace quaint, clean, small, right in downtown North Bend, affordable, with a trustworthy and kind staff, this is the place for you! Our available room had 2 beds, which inspired a lot of "I Love Lucy" jokes and added to the ambiance of our special vacation fantasy world. The beds were comfortable and clean. The room had cable television, a telephone, wi-fi access, and a small refrigerator/freezer. The room smelled clean and the shower was hot and had good pressure. I liked the spacious counters and medicine cabinet in the bathroom. An air conditioner was also provided. Another thing, if you're an animal lover, this is going to win you over: The North Bend Motel has a mascot! Her name is Belle, and she is one pretty kitty. We spent time petting her several times a day as we came and went from the motel. We weren't far from anywhere we wanted to go, so there was no need for us to rent a car. There's an excellent swimming hole not much further than a mile away that everyone calls The Blue Hole. It's absolutely stunning. There are also countless great places to eat nearby. Mr. Starks is definitely a wealth of information on anything you want to know about the area. On the last day of our vacation, we needed help finding a ride to the airport, and guess what? Mr. Starks called one of his driver friends up right away and had him drive us to the airport in his comfortable SUV truck. You don't get service like that at chain hotels. We'll definitely be back again, and would highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for the type of experience I've...
Read moreI stayed at the North Bend Motel last night because it was close to the Snoqualamie Casino where I wanted to see the "Happy Together" oldies concert and wanted a place to stay nearby so I wouldn't have to drive home at night. Like the title said, it was a small and basic room (I had room 16, so it did not have paneled walls) and the bed was surprisingly comfortable for a motel at this price point. I also think management tries to keep things as clean as they can, I saw the cleaning crew work late into the afternoon on some last minute room preps. The sink and showers worked fine, and the fact the plug in the bathroom sink area did not work I found a spot to charge my razor elsewhere in the room, so no big deal. The refrigerator went out during the night but I didn't have anything to speak of in it so again, no real big deal, this can happen in a 5 star motel or hotel.|What was the deal killer was there was stale cigarette smoke smell in the room from over time. Despite managements effort to post no smoking signs outside every door, on the rules sheet and even on the motel key to emphasize no smoking, I noticed several other tenants smoking right outsides their doors, which did not help. Whether that was why the smoke odors or from the time it might have been a smoking motel, or a combination...that was the deal breaker for me in the future, I will go for someplace else. However, if you don't mind that sort of thing, it is a good deal for $75 per night. I of course, had to put up with cigarette smoke briefly going through the casino to the concert itself, the concert was smoke free and I took a shower and changed clothes when I returned to the motel right after the event. When I first arrived the day of the concert it didn't seem as noticeable, as I had the back window open to try and air out the place, but after locking up for the night it became more noticeable by morning. Again, this is an OK place for the money if someone doesn't mind that and wants to cut costs, the owner even gave me a friendly goodbye from the window of the office as I left. How often do you see that in this day and age? It is not easy to own and manage a motel, and the fact that usually people on a budget that truly cannot afford a more expensive room do have a higher percentage of smokers than the overall population, and ownership needs to do what they need to do to stay in business. I did choose this place because it was close to where I was going, and I will admit it was also my decision to cut costs just for a one night event 55 miles from my home. Next time I will have to try another place...
Read moreI am disabled, and I drove in to the pristine parking lot at nearly midnight in a uhaul towing my car with my 12 and 6 year old daughters and some food from the local Safeway. My 12 year old checked us in to this adorable hotel that looked like I had stepped into a Grimm's fairytale with gingerbread style roofs and mouldings. Not only was it the best price in town (every other place wanted to charge me $100 more for one night) it has brand new mattresses, beautiful original cottage cheese ceiling with glitter so it looked as if there was a galaxy of stars above. The owner helped me park my uhaul and trailer and even put up cones so I wouldn't be in the way of other cars and made sure I had the room closest to my truck. There are no smoking rooms but each room has a chair and flower pot to sit outside and smoke. Hot pockets in the microwave and a little fridge/freezer for some popsicles and my kids were happily eating at 1230am. This family owned hotel has been a staple in North Bend since 1937, and has the original vibe as if stepping back in time for just a few minutes. The bathrooms were perfect and the shower stall just perfect for me to sit down and shower since I had my shower chair in the back of my uhaul. There was a small 1.5" step to get into the shower and was easy to wash and slide out of the shower to my walker. The beautiful fire of Mt, Sai rising behind the hotel was truly breathtaking in the morning sun. I gladly recommend North Bend Hotel to locals, weary travelers, and anyone who wants a beautiful family owned hotel at a great price. I wish I had had the time to stay another night, it was a diamond in the rough on a night when I got lost trying to find a...
