Unless you are a serious botanist, the significance of the the Systemic Garden plan will probably elude you. But there is plenty here for any level of plant lover to enjoy. The rock garden is well maintained and lovely to see in early to late spring. The tall (and very old) trees are impressive. You will be amazed by all the varieties of ferns in the shade gardens. These may not be the most manicured gardens you will find, but everything is well-labelled and there are ample pieces of literature and signs to guide you as you explore. The Lyman Plant House is one of the few remaining conservatories in the US built in the 19th century and is home to collections of succulents, ferns, tropical and subtropical plants, and epiphytes, all arranged biogeographically. Those who work with wood will enjoy testing their knowledge in the âWoods of the World Displayâ located near the restroom. The building is open most days from 8:30 - 4:00 pm.    Read moreThe botanic garden is a wonderful mini-getaway when you have cabin fever or are sick of winter. The large greenhouses are nothing short of spectacular. We were fortunate to catch the Bulb Show in early spring that offered an intoxicating array of amazing flowers. Special events can draw a crowd, so there may be a bit of a wait.
I donât think itâs particularly wheelchair accessible. There is a bench or two for those with mobility issues, but they might not be available. Parking is on street and can end up being a bit of a hike as well as the street parking being uphill from the place, so if you have mobility issues itâs best to be dropped off at the door.
There are bathrooms but no concessions- however, you are in Northampton and a slew of dining and shopping options are nearby.

It took us about 50 minutes to tour the gardens. Wide variety of plants, succulents, ferns, flowers and many other varieties.
It was easy to navigate from one greenhouse to the next from the reception area.
This is on the campus of Smith college in Northampton Massachusetts.
They asked for a $2 donation per person and I think it's very reasonable.
The young lady behind the counter at the reception desk was super helpful and knowledgeable. Quick to answer any questions we had.
We drove up Friday January 17th morning, arriving by 11a It was not busy.
We were told school is out until the 27th and I think that made a bit of a difference. Easy parking.
