The gold buying service here is deceptive and predatory.
I went to sell some gold jewelry because they have a 110% price match advertised on their website - like anyone would, I assumed they would beat other prices by 10%. I came in with prices from another jeweler in the area.
First, the representative accidentally (or "accidentally") underweighted the gold I brought in to sell. It was only corrected after I pointed it out, because I had weighed and sorted it ahead of time.
Then, I asked about the price match - the representative had no idea what I was talking despite the offer being on their own website homepage, about and had to disappear for 10 minutes to find a manager. When they finally came back, it turns out - they don't actually beat other offers by 10%. They take 10% of the difference between their offer and the other offer and add it to their price (???). So, if they offered $800 and another jeweler offered $1,000, they wouldn't offer you $1,100, they'd offer you $820 (???).
After they spent a bunch of time mathing it out and getting manager approval, their buy offer was still $5 below the offer I got from another jeweler. I asked if they could at least bump the price by $5 so their offer would be equal. The representative then disappeared for another 10 minutes, then came back and told me that not only would they not raise the offer, they wouldn't honour the offer that they had just made me. They realized they couldn't rip me off and refused to buy anything at all.
Plus, without the price matching, their offer on 14K gold was $21.01 per gram. Other, more reputable jewelers are paying $30+ for 14K gold - almost 50% more than them.
Clearly, their gold buying service is designed to prey on unsophisticated buyers who don't know what gold is worth or how to sell it.
EDIT: To be clear, I have no problem with the specific representative I worked with - though very clearly undertrained (not their fault) they were courteous through the entire process. I only have a problem the deceptive business practices being used, which are put in place by the owners and upper management.
I've received a reply stating that Tappers does, in fact, have a 110% price match, but that they take 10% of the difference between the competitor's price and Tapper's price and add that to the competitor's price. Nothing on Tapper's website, as far as I could find, mentions this. No functional human being does math like this unless the goal is to be deceptive. Everyone would interpret "110% match" as being the competitor's price plus 10%, not some bizarre fuzzy...

I had first come to Tapperâs a few months ago in search for a Rolex. Cyrus had helped me out with this. I told them I would be back for other âcustom jewelryâ. The time had come for this which was an engagement ring! (Had to be vague in my review in case my fiancĂ©e saw it lol) Cyrus had recommended Chacara to help me with this and she was excellent and could not have asked for more. I had set an appointment with her a month ago (this review is late because I had wanted to propose before leaving the review) to design the perfect engagement ring. Needless to say, since I wanted to keep it a surprise, I wasnât armed with much information. Fortunately for me, Chacara had a wealth of knowledge and asked the perfect questions to design the perfect ring. During my appointment (which had lasted awhile, sorry!) Chacara was very professional, kind and patient with all of the questions and various decisions that had to be made on my end. I never felt rushed or pushed to make decisions I wasnât comfortable with. If there was any uncertainty on my end, she always seemed to have a solution that never made me feel uncomfortable, rushed or pushed to make that decision. She was more than willing to always show me something different for comparisons until we landed on the perfect ring!
After the purchase a month ago, I had proposed and came back with my fiancée to have the ring resized and to pick out her wedding band. Not only did we receive the same top tier experience the first time, I was surprised at every detail Chacara remembered a month later despite having probably seen countless other clients after our first meeting. She truly embodies the characteristics of a terrific advisor between her knowledge, professionalism, and approachability.
Starting with my experience with Cyrus and continuing with Chacara, the Tapperâs team has my upmost confidence in any jewelry or timepiece needs in the future. Driving the extra 30 minutes one way instead of a local jeweler was definitely worth the experience and care! Thank you again...
   Read moreBeen in the store twice. First time was to look at watches. Was immediately greeted at the door and linked with a SA who showed me different Tudors. Couldnât find one that resonated with me and was directed over to Rolex where I was introduced to Cyrus as my SA. From start to finish, he was very respectful and knowledgeable about the different watches even not associated with Rolex. After trying on a few different models, landed on wanting a YM 40. He explained the process to me and while waiting, he was very prompt and professional with his responses via text. I have a few other Large purchases I needed to make in the near/relative future but was debating if I should go to a jeweler down the road for me or venture out to Novi. After my experience with Cyrus, I will definitely be driving the few extra miles to go to Tappers in Novi.
I let him know I would be coming back just for him and if I should ask for an appointment to see if he dealt with other pieces of jewelry besides Rolex. Regrettably he informed me he was going to a different Rolex location but he said to feel free to reach out to him and he would set me up with a different SA at Tappers in Novi who would offer the same level of excellence as he did. This floored me as it truly showed his dedication to the customer and customer experience rather than that of a salesman who seeked personal gain.
It saddens me that I wonât be seeing him in the future but his confidence in the Tappers Novi team left me with a feeling I would still get my needs met without working with him. Thank you Cyrus! His hard work, professionalism and dedication has earned Tappers Novi a lifelong customer!
