Surf N Sea – Legendary Vibes on the North Shore 🌊🏄‍♂️ No Circle Island Tour of Oʻahu is complete without a pit stop at the iconic Surf N Sea in Haleʻiwa. This place isn’t just a surf shop—it’s a North Shore institution, a temple for wave chasers since 1965. Located right on the water where the surf breaks are world-famous, this is where the aloha spirit and surf culture collide. 🤙 Chill Crew, Classic Vibes We rolled in and were greeted by a crew that was cool, laid-back, and super welcoming—total legends. Whether you’re a first-timer, a weekend warrior, or a full-on barrel hunter, the staff and instructors make you feel like part of the tribe. They know their stuff, they live the life, and they’re all about sharing the stoke. 🛍️ Gear, History & Good Vibes The shop itself? Packed with boards, gear, beachwear, and surf memorabilia. It’s not just a place to buy—it’s a place to feel the soul of surfing. Every corner has a story. You’re walking through a piece of North Shore history—this shop has stood the test of time, right across from the break, watching generations of surfers drop into waves and dreams. 🏄‍♀️ Lessons from the Best If you’re new to surfing or want to fine-tune your skills, the instructors here are top-notch. Patient, stoked, and all about getting you up on that board and riding your first wave with confidence. They’re passionate about what they do, and it shows. 🌺 Final Drop-In Surf N Sea is a must-stop spot on your Oʻahu adventure. Whether you’re picking up gear, booking a lesson, or just soaking in the surf culture, this place is the real deal. Local roots, global reputation, and pure aloha. One rule: When in Haleʻiwa, always stop at Surf N Sea. You’ll walk in curious and leave stoked.

My wife and I are vacationing in Oahu for 10 days to spend some much needed time together. I just took a guys trip to a surf camp in Mexico last summer so I didn’t want to push my luck traveling with boards since this wasn’t a “surf” trip. After many adventures on the island together she suggested we look for a shop to rent a board so I could catch a session on the north shore and that’s what brought us in. As we entered, she wandered off to the clothes and I inquired about rentals. I was met by a young man that seemed to be quite irritated with me looking for a high performance board to catch a few waves with. I’m not sure what he was going through at the moment (maybe his dog just got ran over) but there was an overwhelming sense of superiority radiating from him. He actually told me he wouldn’t rent me a board after he asked me where I wanted to surf (pupukea) which was baffling. I wandered over to where my wife was and grabbed a Hurley shirt and hat that were specific to the shop. As a small business owner, I love to support local shops so I usually pick up a t shirt as a souvenir. As I was checking out the same employee met me at the register to ring everything up. He asked me if anyone in the store helped us with our purchases which made me laugh out loud because not one employee approached us the entire time we were there. 🤙🏻

I did my PADI Open Water Dive certification with Surf N Sea, and I’m so glad I did! I would highly recommend this shop over any crowded and touristy places in town. The dive master (Charlie) is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and a great teacher. She has done over 5000 dives and knows Sharks Cove like the back of her hand. I was so impressed! She has a very calming presence and can tailor the training to your comfort level. I was really nervous to do the mask off swimming, but she made me feel very safe and calm underwater. Because this shop is farther away from Honolulu/Waikiki, I was lucky enough to have 1:1 training with the dive master. Amazing!! We did two days of diving in Sharks Cove and completed two dives each day about an hour long each. Sharks Cove is an awesome place to dive. We saw tons of different endemic fish, some little reef sharks, turtles, eels, crab, lobster, a halibut, and much more. Charlie is an expert at spotting different underwater creatures and knows so many different species and their hiding places. She can also find tons of hidden octopus and plays with them underwater. There were many swim throughs and little coral reef tunnels that were really cool to explore. Highly highly recommend, thank you Charlie!!

This was my experience with Surf N Sea on the North Shore Oahu, Hawaii July 2017. I booked and paid for a PADI Open Water Diving Certification class and dives in advanced. They honored my booking and I completed the class. I got my certificate. I'm now a PADI Open Water Certified Diver ! Charlie was my instructor. She was VERY patient with me, extremely attentive and wanted me to learn ALL she was teaching. Not just "pass" the test. I'm forever grateful for her desire to go beyond the call of duty and I felt safe putting my life in her capable hands. People come from around the world to be taught by her. So if you want to learn to dive, better go for it. Like everyone else she may retire someday soon so don't wait. Now for the rest of the staff... the ENTIRE staff was patient, welcoming, treated me better than Ohana (family) and answered all my questions. The great attitude can only be ... or mostly be ... attributed to the owner or the store manager. His great attitude flows down through the crew and is reflected by the crew. I really genuinely like these guys. I went one way over two hours riding the bus from the Ilikai back and forth almost everyday I was on Oahu, Hawaii to Surf N Sea in Haleiwa, Hawaii. That is testimony as to the value I placed on what I saw years ago when I visited their shop and still do today. Okay this is beginning to look like a book now... do you see what they had to put up with ? And they did it with smiles. I wish I could've given them all a big Texas hug ! I'll see you guys again. #surfnsea #texastreeman see my videos of the adventure I had obtaining my Divers certificate. Just add /texastreeman at the end of YouTube...

Usually my go to shop when i come down to visit family. Lately, however I'm not sure what's up with some of the staff. They seem to have very low morale and I know things are tough but the rudeness that occurs when you have a question about spots to snorkel and what not is met with actual annoyance towards me is absolutely ridiculous. Or the fact that if you want some snorkel gear when the water isn't perfect is met with eye rolls and annoyance. I'm not here all the time. We do not have the ability to choose the perfect days. If you want to control where people use your gear then you need to do an hourly basis and not let anyone use the gear outside of Haleiwa. The fact that my spouse asked what certain equipment is used for was met with a literal scoff, eye rolling, and shaking their heads. How dare you shame tourist for not know what equipment does what. I will not say names of the individuals acting this way as I believe people can have a change in direction in behavior. Life is hard right now and we all have our stuff but my line is drawn when we are quiet mannered people just trying to keep light conversation and its met with annoyance. A meeting needs to take place with your staff as this is a ridiculous way to behave. This is beyond what I would ever expect from this business. They have been nothing but great for years and years but this current staff needs...
