When you walk in, you're surprised because you're not in a restaurant. I assumed it was a multi tier restaurant that had a rooftop option, but I was wrong. The downstairs area is actually a design gallery for indoor and outdoor home furniture. While what I initially saw was nice, I was only there for the restaurant. Upon exciting the elevator you're exposed to a hidden gem of the establishment. With the ambiance created with enough lighting to still have an intimate setting, a central water fountain with waterfall lions heads, and upbeat music, it's definitely a great atmosphere. I did go at 7 pm, which in hindsight negates the fully windowed indoor seating area from what could be a magical sunset, however there was plenty of outdoor seating for conversations to continue after meals. As for the meal, I started with the shrimp cocktail, which was 6 large shrimp with choice of grated cheese and cocktail sauce, Dijon, and lemon as toppings. I had the salmon paired with the Yukon potato puree, and brocolini. I liked the brocolini, had a nice char with garlic topping, the salmon was cooked to perfection, but to me, the wonderful surprise of the meal was the potato puree. I literally could've had a double helping of that and been truly content. It was mashed potatoes on a silky level...
Read more$296 brunch for 8 people. 1 person ordered a beer and 2 others n/a drinks. Entrees all cost between $18-30 and we ordered a la cart sided as well. French omelette, RH scramble, smashed whole avacado, waffle and swedish pancake all terrible portions that required the a la cart side to be enjoyed as a meal. All was fine to bad with a particular mention for the $10 crispy potatoes that included about 4 bite size chunks of overly fried potato with no seasoning. The rest of the dish was covered by inedible fryer crumbs.
What are we even doing anymore? Is the point to throw away money on vibes alone? Cosplaying as a wealthy Manhattanite with birds' eye views of Oak Brook mall and the McDonalds global HQ? Are we fiddling while Rome burns? I feel insane.
Been a long time since a dining experience has had me this deep in existential thought. RH Oak Brook is an empty, utterly meaningless restaurant...
Read moreIt's a beautiful space and worth a stop if you want to stroll through a museum of design inspiration. Actually shopping, however, is impossible. The sales reps show a lack of interest in helping anyone to begin with, then add a steady stream of young people in minidresses interrupting them because they are looking for the elevator up to the trendy restaurant. I get that you want to put a restaurant on top, but please have a separate entrance and separate employees. They want to parade these people through the showroom up to the restaurant, but it's pretty disruptive to those actually trying to shop. Also, there are no prices on anything, you have to use your mobile to scan the ticket. It takes you to a website that is not mobile friendly at all, so you can't tell the price of any piece unless you put it in your shopping cart, because the price for each color choice varies. Left...
