I’m a 20-year-old college student, currently attending an HBCU, and came home excited to revisit Pour House—a place I used to enjoy. I went with my mom, expecting a peaceful lunch. Instead, we left embarrassed and disrespected.
We ordered multiple items. My Kung Pao cauliflower was great. My mom’s fried pickles were soggy and too salty, and the buffalo chicken dip looked undercooked and tasted off. We politely asked if the pickles could be removed from the bill and if she could order something else instead of the dip.
The manager, Phil, came over already defensive. He didn’t ask questions—he accused us of “always sending food back,” said it was “costing them money,” and refused to remove both items. Then, instead of working with us, he said he’d take care of the check and told us not to come back. When we calmly said we felt targeted, he threatened to call the police.
It felt like they were waiting for a reason to push us out. The moment we gave any feedback, the tone shifted. We weren’t loud or disrespectful. We didn’t refuse to pay. But suddenly we were treated like we were trying to get over on the restaurant. Like we didn’t have the money. He even tried to “little girl” me—as if I didn’t have a right to speak up—because I’m young and Black.
And when we explained that the way he was treating us felt discriminatory, his response was, “My niece is Black.” As if that cancels out everything else.
Let’s be clear—we are paying customers who spoke up when something wasn’t right. That’s not a problem. That’s normal. But this experience made it clear that our presence wasn’t welcome. Not because of anything we did, but because of who we are.
If you’re Black, young, or just expect respect—this is...
Read moreFirst timer here with the family for a little graduation celebration. I’m typing this review about 30 minutes after leaving..
Upon arrival we were seated right away as we had a reservation. The scenery itself was cool/nice- We had “spicy shrimp” & Nashville hot popcorn chicken. main dishes were the smokehouse burger, smoked fried chicken plate, fish & chips, Cuban sandwich, steak & rigatoni. Food overall was a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!
Spice shrimp wasn’t bad tasting, I’d eat it again but it def was not spicy, nor tasted like shrimp. Something you’d get from Costco frozen isle.
Smokehouse burger was nothing special, tasted like any other burger you’d get at a Applebees type establishment. The picture online made it look tasty but when it came out to the table it looked so sad lol 3 onion straws with a splash of pulled pork- almost thought they forgot the toppings for how sad it looked!
The smoked fried chicken plate was probably the dish that disappointed the most bc it was my girlfriends lol go look online of the picture they have posted of this dish & tell me it don’t look good.. false advertisement to the max I damn near could sue. It’s called smoked fried chicken & it came out looking like 2 microwave Tyson chicken Pattie’s on a plate. Mash potatoes were also cheap & bland- only thing good was the hot honey sauce.
The cuben was another not so special dish with very little meat in the sandwich which was bogus to say the least. Fish & chips were flavorless as well, nothing to brag about.
The steak, popcorn chicken, & rigatoni were serviceable dishes I can’t complain about!
Overall, this place was a no for my family, I would do culvers or Portillos over this place 100%- I’m not even full...
Read moreStopped for lunch with my boyfriend and 8 month old at the time since it is near Elmhurst Hospital and we're visiting family. Since it is located at OB Mall the parking can be difficult, but that's normal for this location in general. They have parking in front, if you can find a spot or park by Neiman Marcus and take the stairs down.
This place is great for lunch, dinner, casual night with friends or date night. We felt comfortable as a family to have the baby during lunch too. It is a fun, relaxed atmosphere, yet upscale.
The staff is wonderful, very friendly and attentive! We were greeted right away and seated quickly. We were offered indoor or outdoor on their patio. During the nice weather, they do open the large window/door that separates the patio from inside.
They have a large selection of drinks and good selection for food. Flight options as well! We enjoyed our drinks and their appetizers and our meal very much. For appetizers we tried their Buffalo shrimp and cheese curds. The cheese curds were good, fried to perfection, but the Buffalo shrimp was definitely our favorite. It is crispy jumbo shrimp, with fresh bleu cheese crumbles, and bleu cheese dressing with buffalo sauce. If you like blue cheese I HIGHLY recommend this appetizer.
For entrees, I ordered the chopped salad. I know super basic, but it was so delicious i even ordered one to go! Again, I am blue cheese lover and I tasted it in every bite. Even the portion of avocado was great! My boyfriend tried the Pour House Burger. It was a good dish to have for lunch and the giant dill pickle...
