I recently moved my mother in with us and tried to donate her excess household items. When I tried to drop off a truck full of items, I was told by the man helping to unload that a sofa pillow looked a little dirty and that he couldn't take it. I told him that I wasn't going to sort through everything and that it was everything or nothing. A rude woman from inside must have been listening and yelled out that they didn't want anything. My mother was using everything before she moved, and yes some items could have benefited from a trip through the washer, but nothing was in a condition that rendered it unusable for anyone. Not sure how an organization that supposedly gives everything away (apparently not everything if you read some of the other comments) to people who need it most can be so selective over the condition of the donated items. To coin an old phrase, it looks like beggars can be choosers after all. I ended up taking everything to the WAIF thrift store, where it will be sold to help support the new animal shelter. They took everything and will get more as I have another couple truck loads of items that will need new homes. I'm not sure that I'm buying the garage of blessings motto or mission statement, kind of makes you wonder what they're really up to? But, in the future they will have to do it...

Read moreBeen donating here for the past 5 years or so - mostly clothes and shoes. I have expensive taste and I know not everyone is fortunate so instead of just tossing my older stuff or letting it collect dust, I bring it here. At least $1000 worth of stuff every time. Just drop off and go. I really like the concept they have here. Unfortunately I'm leaving soon so this will be my last drop off but I feel good about all I can do...
