I've been going to Marty's for over 70 years. My first trips there were at my mother's side as she would go in to play slot machines in back. They were legal in OC at that time. In the late 50s and 60s. I was probably in there daily almost every day in summer. When I was pre teen, I'd play the claw machines . I had more marbles from them then I could ever use until I got my first sling shot. I loved the skee ball machines an got pretty good at them. They are still fun. Prizes are fun but if you really want or need the item, go buy it in a store someplace but it's fun to play to get them. Before the machines got to be completely computer controlled. I could go up to the boardwalk and play pinball machines all evening with the quarter a would bring up. It was all I had. From time to time I would see Marty walk thru the arcade but Sam , manager I think , and Marlene , always the cashmere, were always there and friendly. Who I always looked for though was Lew the repair person. When Lew was finished fixing a machine he would usually pop a free game and give it away for trial. Before computers that would generally be enough for me to play for hours. After computers the machines would change and raise winning scores up as you won free games. My routine always was the same. I lived in the trailer park at South Division street one block away. I would walk up between the Snowball stand and Daytons turn toward Marty's an star listening for that wonderful sound of the pop of a machine giving up a game. Many times the winner would just walk off. I got bored on the shooting games. Pinball I would play untill I wanted to quit. I'd save my money for the ski ball or poker machines for coupons. Marty's has updated all of their games and keeps them in good condition. If its new, he'll get it. They're still friendly. And a great place to spend a few hours. I still go there with my grand children and hope to go there with...
Read moreMy family has been coming to Martys Playland since I was a kid in the early 2000s. Always enjoyed it. Went today and a lot of the machines were out of order, and many that didn't have the out of order sign, still did not work.(they would not give tickets, they would take the money and not let us play,etc.). Everytime we tried to ask for an attendant they would not show up to the machine. Asked the manager for the remaining $19 we had left on our playcard to be transferrred off so we could refund that portion, because there were just so many machines having issues. They had just given another couple a refund before us as well that my sister had spoken with. The manager and a woman working at the change counter first yelled at my younger sister for asking and said absolutely not after her just hearing the other couple get a refund. I went up to try to explain in a little more detail what we had dealt with and asked for the remaining balance back from our card. The manager proceeded to yell at me and gaslight the situation saying we had not asked his staff for help and for me to give him one machine right there that was having issues. I said "so we wont be getting a resolution?" He retorted " Your resolution is to play the games with the card! Thats it." Who says that to paying customers!? Like we're not asking to be overcompensated or even get something free, we just wanted a refund of the money left on the gamecard that we wouldnt be able to use on the games there. He seriously needs training in customer service. It is unexcusable to yell at your customers. Same with the change counter woman. We will be going to Sportsland or another spot...
Read moreWe are staying in the apartments and our entire family has been for decades every year. This year has been a horrible experience. Our fridge died Monday night we had a ton of food in it as we are a family of five and can’t afford to eat out for every meal, three meals a day. We went down to the office and told them Tuesday morning when we discovered milk and other items were spoiled. They said they would be up. Two hours late we were still waiting and wasting our vacation. They agreed it was the fridge and they spent the day getting a new one. All of our food had to be thrown away. It took all day but they got a new fridge and the maintenance person was very nice and told us they would make this right. It took 24/48 hours to cool so we had to eat out for every meal. We asked to be compensated $500 for the spoiled food and eating out. The eating out for every meal is not ideal as our son is in a wheelchair and we are a family of five. We have been chasing the management team everyday since. The office lady refused to tell me the mangers name and contact information. Great way to spend your vacation, chasing management and coming up with extra money to feed your family instead of just enjoying yourself. The office lady asked me for recipes of our grocery’s we bought. Like everyone brings there grocery recipes from home on vacation. I found this ironic since we have been asking for a receipt of what we paid for our room since day one, now six days ago and they cannot...
