We came to Oceanside for a beach/park day combo and we got that and a whole lot more! There were two great separate playgrounds just within a few hundred yards from each other, a paved road along the sand that was a good place for a morning beach jog, and a lot of construction equipment right across the street for all those tractor lovers. These play areas are right by the Oceanside pier which is also a fun area to explore with the family too. The notes below highlight the playground known as Wavehuggers or Oceanside Tyson Street Park.
š°This park is free š 1 play structure on sand and rubber ground surfaces but no swings šPlayground is across the street from the beach so bring your sand toys and bathing suits š½Restrooms š§ŗPicnic benches šŖPark benches around the playground š¼Beautiful large lawn. There was a yoga class and a mommy & me exercise class taking place when we were there so look up Oceanside classes if your interested in something like this. Iām sure youāll find something fun! @fit4mom_sandiego has some great options! šParking can be very tricky to find and is almost always going to cost ya. There is metered street parking and some pay lots but if you park on the east side of the train tracks, you can find some free street parking. We parked in the neighborhood near Seagave Dr/Tremont St and had a 5 minute walk...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis park is actually at the beach. The park itself is very small. It does have a big grassy area where you can sit or lay out if sand and rocks are not your thing. There are too many rocks at the first break of the waves. They can cut the bottom of your feet or the wave can knock you over because you are walking unbalanced trying to avoid these horrible rocks! Once you past these rocks, it's really nice swimming in the bigger waves but if it's a day of a strong rip current you have to keep going over these rocks, to move back out of surfing area to swimming area and one fall on those rocks can do some significant injuries. Anyways, going to a beach with no rocks makes your day more enjoyable. One thing I did notice is security and oceanside police patrol the Pier and surrounding beaches but that might be because there are homeless hanging by the showers and restrooms! So 3 stars is probably to good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNice narrow stretch of park along the strand. Itās great to hang out and check out the surf and passerbyās. From the top of the stairway thereās a great view of the park, ocean, and our pier. Presently, the stairway access is temporarily fenced off for repairs. Iāve seen some people try to descend from the steep embankment only to slip and fall on their behinds. Not safe. On one side of the stairway below there are public restroom facilities and an area for young children to play. On the other side there is open space for larger group activities and an area for surfers and beach goers to shower off the salt and sand. Hopefully, the City will expedite those repairs to the stairway. 5 stars when they do!!!
