Let me start with the positive: |On the plus side, the room was fine/nice. The bed and pillows were fine/nice. The bathrooms are nice. The balconies have a nice view. Even though the hotel was right by the train (all the hotels in Oceanside are), the room was well-soundproofed, and we weren't bothered by any outside noise. The only charge $32 per day for parking. The rooms have a small fridge and a microwave. ||But...it's a lot of money for...|No valet. |No restaurant. |No room service. |No coffee shop or espresso stand. |No spa. |No gift shop. |The gym has 3 machines in a tiny room. ||There is one water station for refilling water bottles, but it doesn't seem to have filtered water (seems like you could get tap water). It's located on the 6th floor in the gym, which is not convenient, especially considering the situation with the elevators. ||They have a tiny area selling a few chips and drinks. But you have to pay at the front desk so if a lot of people are checking in our out this could take a long time and simply isn't worth it. There is a wine shop that is connected to the lobby. But unless you're into wine, it's not that exciting and there isn't anything in there for kids or regular folk. I hardly saw anyone in there. ||The elevators take forever. There are just two elevators, and only one goes to the basement parking lot. With so many people staying at the hotel, standing and waiting for elevators for a very long time is a hassle. Maybe the speed is fine when there aren't too many people there. ||It's an outrageous amount of money considering everything they don't have. ||The free breakfast is just okay. It's not great. And when there are a lot of people they run out of things very fast (even coffee) and it can take a while for them to replenish. ||Self-park is a reasonable price, but beware, the garage is incredibly tight, and they have wrapped every pillar in astroturf or carpet because it's obvious that more than a few people have hit the pillars). ||The front desk staff is okay. Some are nice, some are just working, aren't happy about it, and don't feel like helping. ||There is no information about what the hotel offers, where to get food, when breakfast is served, how to get to the wifi, or things to do in town. Nothing. I don't know if there was an app we were supposed to use. But no one told us anything. There is no QR code anywhere to find out more info. Even when I tried to check in just 20 minutes before 4 pm they offered me nothing. They said that check-in is guaranteed at 4 pm and then just looked at me. I explained that i was there (hi!) and wondered where to park (remember there is no valet) and that I had a lot of luggage to handle on my own. Only then did they offer that I could get a luggage cart and they could store my luggage and that I could park my car and give me a key for the garage and that I could wait on the terrace. But it was like pulling teeth. ||The terrace could be lovely if it had some umbrellas. But it's way to hot and sunny to sit up there in the direct sunlight without any shade. It was baffling why they didn't have any umbrellas. I guess you could sit there in the early morning or late in the evening. ||I think they might offer beach towels, but no one ever offered them to us, and I never figured out where to find them. ||I saw a family getting beach chairs and boogie boards from the front desk, but I don't know if that was something the hotel was offering because, again, no one offered. And there was no where in the room or around the hotel to find the information. ||I tried looking on my Marriott app to see if any of this information was available - but never found anything. ||While we were there, Oceanside had a farmers market and a sunset market. We could have easily missed these because the hotel did not provide information about anything local. ||Lastly, they have a bible in the room. Seriously? It seemed so like a cheap motel. I find this kind of religious bias in 2024 bizarre. What if you are Jewish? Muslim? Hindu or Buddhist? It's just wrong. There is no place for it, and it isn't unnecessary. Everyone can bring their own religious text when and where they need to. ||Would I stay there again? maybe if I got a cheaper rate. But for $500+ per night? no, probably not. ||But I'll repeat that the rooms and beds are fine/nice. and the hotel lobby and shared...
Read moreI enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it was relaxing with a balcony overlooking the train and the ocean which I loved.
Alexus and Richard are amazing employees. Helping with a difficult situation , and they helped with b preparations and questions before we even arrived.
🖤🖤The positives for this hotel
*Affordable *Next to the ocean *Large rooms *ADA accessible rooms, are very nice as my mother is disabled there was plenty of room and everything she needed, Alexus made sure my mother got the right room blocked off and Richard was attentive to this. The rooms with balcony's have partial view of the ocean , super beautiful view , you can see the ocean from the pool deck on the 6th floor too and it's definitely worth it. The decor is very beachy and almost makes you feel like you're on a cruise. The rooms have a fridge and a microwave *You can hookup your Netflix to the tv *The couch is a trundle and super comfortable *An amazing desk , if you are a writer like me , that is important , the desk has a view of the sliding door which overlooks ocean side and it's nice. Breakfast was good for the holiday, but it didn't have much the next day , seemed like leftovers from the previous day so I couldnt really say if their breakfast was good they ran out of hot water alot and only have it available during breakfast. They did have waffles and that was good.
🖤🖤ONLY NEGATIVE of my stay , . As an employee belittled me in front of the entire lobby, about bringing food to my mother upstairs when she is disabled, in sandwich bags calling me tacky. I said next time I can bring glassware if that's less tacky but I'm not carrying a paper plate on an elevator with the pandemic , the manager ensured there would be a better protocol for those in my mother's situation in the future , and the issue was taken care of. Other than that it was an amazing little get away with my mom and sister , it truly is a gem in Oceanside , and I would recommend it to others as most wouldn't bring breakfast upstairs , I am sure you won't deal with any issues but if you do , don't use Ziploc it's against the hotels policy and it's tacky , according to the food service worker. But I was told to just notify the worker , the situation in the future and they will have a bag and can tape up a plate over the plate and place it in the bag to bring upstairs which sounds great. 🖤 The main issue was the employee , being rude and belittling me in front of others , but every body has an off day. And I hope her days got better and she had some customer service training. 🖤
But definitely stay at this hotel if you want an affordable getaway in socal next to the beach. I love that I was able to check in through the app as well and communicate and order items for my room through the app. It's beneficial.
If you live in socal , there are usually socal deals and the AAA discount gave free parking for our weekend so definitely look at...
Read moreThis review is specifically for the hotel room blocks one might inquire about for a wedding or large celebration in the area.
The sales person whom we've had contact with, Gabby, has been unclear and difficult from the beginning. I must add that we haven't gotten married yet to utilize the hotel room block. But, our experience for the last 8-10 months has been awful and the hotel and Gabby has yet to take any responsibility for their mistakes. For one, it is difficult to get ahold of any sales person who can answer any questions about hotel blocks and rooms and details. The regular staff at the front desk of the hotel usually have no clue what you're talking about. Two, there is a 2-night minimum stay for your guests for it to count toward your actual room count (Couples beware of this). Three, the reservation link that our guests were required to use to book their stay still allowed our guests to book one night at our discounted rate. Gabby personally emailed each guest who did this (2 total) to say they weren't allowed to do that 2 weeks after they got a confirmation email and a week before the wedding. Her options were to book an extra night or pay for one night at the full amount of a regular room, no discount (this took price from $230 to $350), she also tried to "fix" this by giving them a 10% discount max (this was after only offering 5% but we were not okay with that). Not only is that a flaw with their system, but it's unprofessional to write an informal email asking for more money from our guests like that. Four, we were given our final attrition amount that we owed due to not booking all the rooms, which is fine, we knew the rules and our contract. The amount owed is $1300. Now, another week later she calls my fiance to casually say, "she miscalculated and it's actually $1800" that we owe. Excuse me? $500 is not a small amount to just acccidentally screw up on. And again, Gabby cannot do anything about it. We attempted to speak to her boss which is the one whom offered the 10% discount for our guests instead of our wedding discount. But she's impossible to get ahold of also because no one ever seems to be in office.
I hope this hotel and it's staff takes time to make this right. Weddings happen every weekend, especially with huge venue groups nearby like Trademark Venues and Wedgewood venues that would actually serve them with a lot more business. I'd hate for other couples to have this issue.
If you don't want the headache, I suggest booking blocks of rooms at Mission Pacific or Seabird Hotel. They're right on the water, they are more expensive, but they're staff and team have been a dream to work with. Not to mention their hotel room block agreement makes a lot more sense and is more clear to understand...
