Very disappointing experience. I booked this hotel for my mother’s birthday and holiday trip. Unfortunately, we had issues from the first day. After a long flight we wanted to refresh and relax but our shower was broken. Then we found out the phone in the room wasn’t working. They offered to fix it at night but with us being two females and it being late and wanting to rest that wasn’t feasible. They offered to switch our room but again it is a huge inconvenience to switch. They claimed they fixed it next day but it did not get fixed our entire stay. Also it is important to note we asked for sheets to be changed they never got changed. The window to the balcony was not cleaned ever and seemed to have a heart drawing on it from a previous guest we assume. Also important to note the curtains actually don’t completely close. Every morning we got woken up by sunlight streaming through so had very poor sleep most days.
Next day at breakfast we ordered the buffet. We don’t eat meat and have certain dietary restrictions but our sever did not help offer any other options, the buffet only offered pork and dairy/gluten based options.
Hoping to have a nice day by the pool we found chairs littered with wet towels and appeared no one around them. I’m assuming they didn’t clean after their guests. I know families stay here but lots of kids (and very young ones) sat in the hot tub for hours. It also contained much more than capacity as long with lots of under 12 kids.
After dinner at night the flier alarm went off, we had to get dressed and walk down 5 flights of stairs just to find out we can go back up. Apparently candles in the hotel set off the alarm, so it was the hotels own fault. Next day at breakfast the line wrapped through the lobby apparently you need reservations. We were never told at check-in or by restaurant staff that we need to book reservations. We assumed as hotel guests we would have space. We sat at the bar eventually and I will give props to the bartender for the excellent service (the best we had on our entire stay from any hotel service/staff). We booked spa treatments. It was very very overpriced for very subpar service. The spa amenities included a sauce and mist shower but it was very small and due to several people having treatments there was very little space for us. People seemed to lounge in the chairs all day so we had no where to really sit and enjoy ourselves. The spa outdoor seating is a balcony overlooking the street with two chairs and a daybed which was hogged by a couple. When I said to charge the room for our services they instead charged my card without consent. They claimed the hotel wouldn’t accept the charges to the room or that they got denied or something. It was the manger who even wrongly charged my card without permission. They were apologetic but I still had to contact my bank and get them to speak with them as well to reverse the cards. So much for relaxing on my mother’s birthday.
We had the same restaurant issues the next two days for breakfast we sucked it up since there are not many brunch places nearby and again we wanted the convenience of breakfast. We expressed concerns everyday and spoke to the restaurant manager several times, yet saw no change any day. I booked surf lessons through the hotel but it was actually a 3rd party. I thought the lessons would at least be outside the hotel due to them advertising it and hoping for convenient access due to not having a car. The lessons ended up being further away but luckily I got to speak to the surf company and they offered a ride. The hotel mentioned a drive service, another 3rd party company, they were closed. The bike rental they claimed to offer the company was closed and only offered bike purchases. We tried to book morning yoga but the class was full. I tried speaking with the front desk and one assistant manager but they could only provide credit and some fees waived. My concerns felt brushed off every time. We had no solutions to any of the problems. I am a loyal Hyatt member but felt treated...
Read moreWe stayed here for three nights during our vacation on the Californian coast. Let me just put it out there- the hard product of this hotel is absolutely gorgeous. As Hyatt globalists we got a semi-generous upgrade to a full oceanview room which has spectacular views of the Pacific ocean and the historic Oceanside pier which we could enjoy from our private balcony, perfect for watching the sunset. The rooms are stylish and well appointed and though we found the mattress and bedding strangely “plastic-y” which is usually not the case in Hyatt properties. We also liked our free breakfast at Pipers as well as the pool side service.
Unfortunately, this is where the good news ends. Because service at this hotel (outside of tippeable service at the restaurant or by the pool) is outrageously bad. Bad, bad, bad. It started off badly with the (mostly bored looking) staff at the lobby entrance enjoying staring at us getting our luggage out of the car instead of offering a helping hand. Reception staff came across incredibly rude and tried to tell me that this property doesn’t offer any housekeeping service. When I reacted in disbelief, I was told that as a Hyatt Globalist, I will “generously” get my room serviced daily. Upon politely questioning whether this was still an aftershock of Covid, I was told that “we don’t have enough staff on”. Well- in my mind getting your room serviced is one of the essential reasons to stay at a full service hotel and “not having enough staff” is a problem for their Human Resources department, and not a problem for me to have to manage, as the guest. Also- the rates here are not exactly post Covid welcome back rates, going for $300 upwards per night, so if you have trouble finding housekeeping staff, maybe offer them a dollar or two more, I am sure Hyatt Corporation will survive just fine.
The next day we spent by the pool which and during our absence only a very light service was offered in the room without replacing the used wine glasses or emptying the bins in the room. Also zero trace of vacuuming the floors, wiping the tables, nothing. On the second day, even worse, we noticed by around 3pm that no one had been to our room. Calling guest services I am once again told the fairy tale about service being available only after every third night so here I am having yet another heated discussion asking for the most basic of hotel services. In the end, the unfriendly and downright rude person complies but coming back later we encounter the room in the same stay as we left it, just with some fresh towels thrown in.
We actually had a multitude of further service issues during our stay but the worst really was how staff reacted to my complains on the day of departure. The guy who checked me out happened to be the same rude guy who had completely ignored a simple request the day earlier and reacted by “generously” offering me to take the Destination fee off my bill. When I tell him that this isn’t much of an offer as I would not have to pay this anyway as a Globalist, what does the guy do? He tries to lecture me that destination fees are not waved as a Globalist, so I had to search the Hyatt website to show him otherwise. He still does not concur, tells me that my rate must have been “somehow ineligible” and then goes onto a rant how they have “many many Globalists in this property and unfortunately, they always think they get everything for free which is not true”. Wow, I once again was completely speechless. So after pretty much messing up everything a property could possibly mess up, the attempt to offer a resolution ends up in a heated discussion about hotel benefits. This just proved what I had thought all along- front office at this property is a big part of the problem. I believe that the entire front desk crew needs a reality check- you can’t charge these kind of prices and then offer service that would not be good enough at a random Days Inn by the freeway, let alone a “posh and trendy” Hyatt property. Very disappointing overall which is a shame given that excellent...
Read moreHere’s a polished positive review of a “Seabird Resort” in Oceanside — feel free to adapt any details as you like:
I recently stayed at the Seabird Resort in Oceanside, California, and I can say without reservation: this is the type of beachfront escape that sets a new standard. From the moment we pulled up, the property had that perfect blend of relaxed luxury and subtle coastal charm.
What Makes Seabird Resort Stand Out
The architecture & design are gorgeous — clean lines, natural wood finishes, floor-to-ceiling windows with Pacific‐Ocean views, and tasteful local art everywhere. It strikes the right note between upscale and laid-back.
Rooms are beautifully appointed. Ours had a private balcony overlooking the ocean, a plush king‐size bed, excellent blackout curtains, and everything felt fresh and thoughtfully curated.
Amenities are excellent: a saltwater pool with ocean views, a hot tub that catches the sunset, a spa with a full menu, and a fitness center that’s well-equipped — not just treadmills, but also functional gear and space to stretch or do yoga.
Cleanliness and upkeep are superb; everything is spotless and well‐maintained, which makes a huge difference in comfort and peace of mind.
Staff & Service
What truly elevates the Seabird Resort is the staff. They are outstanding — attentive without being intrusive, genuinely warm, and extremely good at anticipating needs. A few examples:
When we checked in, we mentioned wanting to explore local seafood, and before the end of the day there was a curated list waiting in our room.
Housekeeping was prompt, precise, and always happy to accommodate little requests (extra towels, different pillow type, etc.).
The front‐desk staff gave excellent recommendations for things to do nearby and even helped arrange transportation for us.
At the spa: the therapists were professional and friendly, always asking whether pressure was good, whether anything should be adjusted — you can tell they really care.
Nearby Things To Do
What makes this location special — you’re not just getting a resort; you’re also in a sweet spot to enjoy what Oceanside and the surrounding coast have to offer:
Oceanside Harbor & Pier: Great for morning walks, fishing, or renting kayaks. The vibe is relaxed, picturesque, especially at sunrise.
Surfing & Beaches: Several beaches close by are perfect for catching waves or just lounging — the water’s good and not overly crowded.
Dining: Fresh seafood is obviously a local highlight. There are casual taco joints, oyster bars, and more upscale places with outdoor dining overlooking the ocean.
Day Trips: You can take a short drive up to Carlsbad (for its flower fields or LegoLand), or even head south toward San Diego for museums, nightlife, or Balboa Park.
Shopping & Culture: Oceanside’s downtown has art galleries, local boutiques, a farmers market, and live music — enough to fill afternoons without feeling touristy.
Overall Impression
Staying at the Seabird Resort was restorative. It hits that sweet spot: luxurious without pretentiousness, relaxing without being boring. The greatness of the staff makes it more than a pretty place — it feels like a place where you’re genuinely welcomed and looked after. If you’re seeking a coastal retreat where you can unwind, indulge, explore a little, and be well‐taken‐care‐of — this is absolutely a place...
