The view can't mask the lack of service and detail that is important for 4-5 star Hotels. We are Oceanside Residents and ultimately benefit from the great development that is going on in Downtown Oceanside.
We were very excited to stay at Hyatt Mission Pacific because we visited the rooftop bar for Date Night and it is awesome, at a glance. But once you pull the blinds back, it's not that attractive. What I mean by that is:
Service: Hyatt Hotels typically focus on elevating the customer experience. We are World of Hyatt members and have stayed at several. Our friend actually works for Hyatt so we have accompanied her and her husband to several properties. In all cases you feel elevated as the Customer and don't mind spending $$$$ and $$$$$ money to stay there. The staff are typically friendly and very helpful. If you're lost or looking around, someone will usually ask "can I help you find something." If you're at the bar waiting for a drink, the bartender usually asks "what can I make for you". MISSION PACIFIC...NOT SO MUCH! The staff is very stiff and not always looking to help. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and tried to reserve space at the Rooftop Bar. We started making calls in May to their events/group coordinator and didn't receive a call back until the middle of June, after several messages. We finally heard from them but had already booked another venue were my party spent over 6k in dinner and drinks. Big miss, Mission Pacific. Shout out to Cucina Enoteca in Del Mar ;-)
Also, we had some friends join us and stay as well. Their room was a nightmare. The toilet was leaking from the base. After several calls and waiting for an "engineer" they were told there aren't any other rooms available. After several back and forth conversations, a room mysteriously appeared and they were moved at no cost. Our poor friends were late to our anniversary party pre-dinner because of that debacle.
Room/Amenities: During our stay, since it was our 25th anniversary, I upgraded to their "Sanctuary Suite." Have you ever seen a supped up Chrysler 300 that changed all the emblems, replacing them with Bentley Emblems? You're not fooling anyone that has driven in a Bentley, it's still a Chrysler. The sanctuary suite is a regular room with a bit more square ft. and a great view. Is it worth the extra $$$$$? Maybe, if you didn't have to wait 5 minutes for Hot Water to make it's way up 5 flights, to the Shower/Faucets. How about an intermediate Water Heater? You're Developer didn't think about that?
Finally, I'm not interested in the standard response to this review from your team...."we are new and are working through our service challenges blah blah blah." Hyatt has been a leader in the Hospitality business for years and have opened new sites all over the world. They have this process down. There is a bigger issue at the core of Mission Pacific and it starts at the GM level. Address it or your Customers will address it for you by not visiting your establishment due to your plummeting service scores. Attrition is unavoidable, great location or not, if you're not moving forward and striving for excellence.
Buyer, please consider other alternatives until Mission Pacific (I took Hyatt off by design) gets...
Read moreI'll begin by saying it's a great property. The location is ideal, the hotel gives off a very chill vibe, and the rooms are more than comfortable. I had an oceanfront room, so no complaints.
It was everything else that sucked. Let's begin.
Almost every problem I encountered was made worse by the front desk. For the duration of my stay, the desk folks were seldom around. What you could always find were guests standing around waiting for help. When someone did show up, they didn't seem to be all that helpful or even didn't pretend to care.
During my stay, housekeeping never stopped by the room. Calling and visiting the front desk to ask for housekeeping was a waste of time. (see point one)
I spent a whole day trying to find a roll of toilet paper. It took a half dozen trips to the front desk and as many conversations to solve the problem. Instead of just handing me a roll, everyone I spoke to, when someone was around, insisted it be delivered to the room. To the hotel's credit, this was the one promise they kept. Sure, it was 12 hours later, but they did come through. For those concerned about the dire situation, there were plenty of tissues on hand.
I don't know how to say this without sounding like an a-hole, but here goes. If I wanted to make my bed, buy my toilet paper, and wash my towels, I would have gotten an Air BnB. I'm guessing housekeeping services is why a lot of folks prefer hotels. It's a chance to get away from the daily grind of life at home.
There was a red flashing light in the ceiling in the bathroom which no one at the hotel could explain to me. It didn't keep anyone up at night, but it was annoying.
If you're paying $44 a day for valet services, it would have been nice to have someone to call when you needed your car. To be clear, the valets themselves could not have been nicer, but the valets repeatedly told me to call guest services 10 minutes before you wanted your car. I did. No one answered. So with no one answering the phones, I had to go to the front desk ( see point 1) and then find a valet.
A hot shower was not always given. On a good night, it took five minutes of lukewarm water to turn hot.
But probably my favorite feature in the room was the translucent bathroom door. While you couldn't see through the door, you could see the outline of everything happening behind the door.
Rather than continuing to pile on, I'll cut to the chase. The place isn't worth what they're charging. I can't speak to the Seabird, the sister property across the street, but it can't be any worse than the Mission Hotel. I suggest you keep looking for another place to stay or take your search 30 minutes north to Laguna Beach, but this isn't the hotel you're...
Read moreI am writing my first ever Google review because I am just overwhelmed with gratefulness to the entire staff of Mission Pacific for their commitment to customer service, their genuine care and attention to detail, and most of all their honesty and integrity. It speaks volumes about the way this hotel is managed.
For context, my husband I spent one Saturday morning exploring Oceanside and we both became intrigued by the sister properties located directly across from the boardwalk, gorgeous ocean facing views, and centrally located with tons of cute restaurants and cafes. Fast forward a few months later, I proposed a stay at Mission Pacific for a quick 24-hour getaway for my girlfriends and I. We couldn’t have loved our experience more. First of all, I have to give a big shoutout to Jorge at the front desk. He provided top notch customer service and through my travel credit card perks, I was able to get an amazing upgrade and early check in for both rooms. We loved the aesthetic/vibe of the hotel and the rooms. The rooms were arranged with design and function in mind – even though it was provided, we didn’t need to use luggage racks when the built-ins could serve as additional seating or storage. A detail that didn’t go unnoticed or underappreciated! Also, the views were just breathtaking and even though we were located on the same floor as the rooftop bar/pool, we felt safe knowing that you needed key access two times to enter the hallway to our rooms.
Finally, after the drive back home, my heart sank when I realized that I somehow left behind some expensive earrings in the room. With my voice trembling and on the verge of tears, I called the hotel and was transferred to Lost & Found, where the kind woman on the phone assured me that she had the earrings in her possession, and I could arrange pick-up at my convenience. I just about lost it. Earlier in the year I accidentally left a gold necklace in the pocket of my robe during a hotel spa visit and was never able to recover the necklace. That’s why I had very little hope that the earrings could be recovered. I have a sweet angel named Isabel, the housekeeping manager, to thank. I hope she is rewarded with the max amount of karma points one can receive. I made sure to leave something for her to show my appreciation. Overall, thank you to the entire staff for making it such a pleasurable stay for my friends and I. We’ve been friends for over 20 years and we rarely get to have such great quality time together. Mission Pacific was the perfect venue for our girls’ trip and I couldn’t recommend it more. I genuinely cannot wait for my next visit and for my friends and family to enjoy the...
