I’ve played this course for years but now normally play wedgewood. I went down on Wednesday October 4, 2023 at 900am with a friend. 10 cars in the parking lot and no one on the course. I was excited to play a quick 18 and get to work in the afternoon. Clubhouse attendant says they are completely booked and can’t get a twosome out. No one is in the clubhouse. I asked if we could go now and beat the “crowd”. No. Can we start on the back? No. Said he has 30 players about to play and there’s no room. I walked to the starter. Not a cart at the first tee. Only one cart on the range. No one in the parking lot headed that way. I ask the starter what gives? No one is playing? He said it’s not his call. After my friend and I catch up, wonder why they won’t let us play, and call wedgewood who can put us on we pack our bags back up. It’s been 10-15 minutes and not a single ball has been teed up, no one is on the first tee or even heading that way and the starter comes up to me in the parking lot and says someone didn’t show up so we can go ahead and play if we’re ready. I said no I was ready 20 minutes ago but no one wants me to play here so I’m ready to go somewhere else. I like the course but I’ve never been to a golf course that rudely tried so hard to not let me play. 30 players is 7.5 foursomes. I would’ve hit the range, putting green, had some food, and hung out to wait and only play 9 but wasn’t even given that option. I’ve tried to get a tee time online for early weekends but they are always booked up which made todays rebuff sting extra. If they read this and offer me free golf I won’t take...
Read moreI normally don’t write reviews unless the experience was really good. I played Cherokee Valley yesterday by myself for the first time and I’m very impressed with the condition of this public course. Early Spring can be a tough time for golf courses but this course was in phenomenal shape. The fairways were very full and lush with plenty of cushion. The greens were terrific. I didn’t notice any dead spots on any of the greens. They rolled very true and approach shots would stick with ease. It really made playing enjoyable and easy. The practice range was in great shape and very easy to aim for targets. Turf mats were mandatory yesterday but the sod area looked wonderful. At first I didn’t like the idea of warming up on a mat but it ended up being fine.
From a difficulty standpoint, this course is super forgiving and most of the fairways are wide open. The course was probably one of the easiest I’ve ever played. If you can hit the ball straight off the tee, you can expect a sand wedge approach to most greens. I actually shot the best score of my life yesterday and a lot of that success was due to how playable the entire course was. I could tell that the grounds crew works hard and every tee box had the prior days divots filled. If you are looking for a fun and enjoyable golf course, check out Cherokee Valley. It might be a tad more expensive than your typical public course, but it’s...
Read morePanoramic of hole 15 from tee box to green. Enjoyed this course and would go back over and over. The price was great and the greens were fast and readable. Can't wait to play again and use driver of the tees. I decided to play from the white tees for my first time and used mostly 5i off the tees instead of driver and woods from the back gold and blue tees. Rewarded with a 77 [60 yr old - 14 HDCP player]. For hole 12 (257yd) pulled out the Driver and went across the pond (231yd) and was just left, pin high, on the first cut. Big smile for that birdie. The fairways were in good shape with only a few holes having work done to improve. Greens were excellent and rolled very smooth and fast. Never saw divots to be fixed, just small dents. Many greens were protected well by sand traps, so mid-irons tend to run to the back of the greens when landing up front. Tee boxes were in beautiful shape, however, I know my wife would have said the course did not give much forgiveness for women as the red tees were not that far in front of the white tees. This course is well worth the money and should be enjoyed often. Hope you prove me right. P.S. Track your strokes and your putts. The putts will be challenging. 17 on the front, 14 on the back for me. Learned by the back nine to go down a club and drop it like a piano next...
