I’m from California, where Mexican cuisine is a staple, so I was skeptical about finding authentic flavors in Mississippi. That was until I stepped into Chuki’s Deli Mexicano. The place has a chill vibe, with an open kitchen where you can see the chefs working their magic. It’s casual and unpretentious, but what they’re serving up is anything but ordinary.
I went for the cheesy chicken and rice. This dish was a game-changer. The chicken was tender, seasoned just right, and the rice had this perfect balance of flavors – not too overwhelming but definitely memorable. The cheese sauce? It tied everything together like a culinary bow.
Then there was the chicken quesadilla, a dish my friend ordered. It was a thick, hearty quesadilla, loaded with grilled chicken. It’s rare to find a quesadilla that stands out, but this one did. The balance of crispy tortilla and juicy, well-seasoned chicken was spot on.
The service matched the quality of the food – efficient, friendly, and with a knack for making you feel welcome. And yes, the food was so good that I completely forgot about taking pictures.
So, here’s the scoop: Chuki’s Deli Mexicano is a must-visit if you’re in Mississippi and craving Mexican food. It’s a refreshing change from the typical fare and honestly, it’s some of the best Mexican food I’ve had outside of California. Trust me, it’s worth the trip.
Update: I visited this restaurant again recently, and the service was even more exceptional than before! I stopped by around 10:30 or 11 a.m., hoping to catch the start of the lunch menu. When I walked in, the lady at the register let me know they were only serving breakfast at the time. I was a bit disappointed but decided I might try to come back later.
As I was walking in, I noticed three men outside chatting, looking like they had just finished eating. A couple of them were holding drinks, and we casually greeted each other as I went inside. When I came out shortly after, one of the men stopped me and asked if everything was okay. I explained that I was leaving because I thought lunch wasn’t available yet.
He immediately asked me to come back in with him, and I agreed. He went behind the register and spoke to the person cooking on the grill, then came back to ask what I wanted to order. My daughter and I placed our order, and to my surprise, they made lunch for us even though it wasn’t technically lunchtime yet.
I’m pretty sure that guy was the owner, and his kindness and attention to detail really made my day. The food was, as always, fantastic, and I left feeling so appreciated as a customer.
This is the kind of place that goes above and beyond for their customers. I truly hope they stay open for a long time because the service and food are both top-notch. Highly...

The good: This place is too far away from me
The super bad: my wife is going to hurt me when she finds out I came here without her.
Yes, you read that correct the good and the bad are the same thing. Bad because this place is far but it's so tasteful and I love it. Drove 30 min out of my way to come here today. The good is be if this if this place was closer to me I can guarantee you in one year I'd go up a few Ibs. and more the years after. I like that they have traditional art and decoration to show the Hispanic culture. All the way from the Maya/Aztec area to one of the most famous and known comedian of the early 1900s cinema.
I HAVE FINALLY FOUND THE BEST. FOUND WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. This place brings back memories from my childhood in Mexico. They have fresh waters here (literal translation) to aguas frescas. freshwater that has been flavored to traditional drinks in Mexico. Highly recommend them if you are not diabetic. OK, so enough about me reminiscing of my childhood. The tacos were amazing!!! The chorizo nachos are not the healthiest thing to get on the menu, but neither is a funnel cake when you go to a fair. Yet one Still wants it because the flavors are what you like. The cooks are always on the move and so are the waitresses.
Don't skip on this place. it is kind of hidden next to Kroger. I am glad I found this place I have been looking for years for a place that is both clean and very lively.
I'm sitting here writing this review trying to come up with something negative about this place and I think I finally found it. While the bathrooms were clean and look up to date with a urinal and a toilet. There was no paper to dry my hands. (Easily Fixed when I told them that they had run out).
Ok time to slowly walk out to my car and reconsider eating that much. But id do it again.
Make sure you say hi to the owner/manager/chef. Friendly guy and his kind wife is a waitress running around and making sure it's clean. Talked to booth of them and they are very passionate about their food...
Read moreOn my way into Kroger‘s, I decided to go to Chucky’s deli, Mexicano and order something to go, and have it ready by the time I came out of Kroger. So I decided to try a torta. I have never had one before. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak torta. It was $13.99 and it was huge. It was very good, plenty of meat and the bread was nice. Next time I will get a more traditional Mexican torta. This experience inspired me to go on quest to find my favorite torta. I have tried two more places for tortas. At Esmeralda,s taco shop, I tried a El Pastor torta. It was also $13.99 and huge, but came with a generous serving of fries. The meat was very good, but Chuki’s had a little more meat. I liked the texture of the bread better at Esmeralda’s. Next I tried Mississippi Old Town. I got the chicken torta to go. The guy who took my order, also prepared my torta. He gave me the order and charged me exactly $17.00. I gave him $20.00 and he gave me $3.00 change. I thought that’s the most expensive torta yet. As I was leaving, I asked if he had a take out menu. He gave me one, and I left. The torta was also huge and had a decent amount of meat. It was very good, though I didn’t like the bread as much as the other places. I was extremely disappointed when I got around to reading the carry out menu. The cost of all the tortas was $14.99. I am sure he purposely overcharged me, for that reason I would never go back, even though the...
