I really want to support something creative and historic, but the Santa Lucia Festival Omaha, NE is in such poor taste this year.
Our entire neighborhood lost power and they are hosting it at the end of our street with numerous generators, while we are literally throwing everything in our fridges away or paying for hotels.
We got our power back at 3pm today after a debilitating storm, and this evening they are literally lighting fireworks 30 feet from our personal vehicles, which ended up including a small fire, and DIRECTLY under power lines. After they know we all lost power. Extremely negligent and in poor taste. It’s the weekend, so nothing can be done about cancelling it as they have a permit (allegedly) and the city offices are closed. But I was told they are doing it again tomorrow, in the same exact spot. I have personally reported it, as have several neighbors. Nothing is being done about it.
So if you support this festival, they care very little about the community they claim to by allowing this to occur without any thought to consequences or how it affects those around them.
