*Changed my review from 1 to 3 stars after helpful comment and phonecall from owner, Jeff, who seems very caring and dedicated to his business and his employees. My family celebrates St. Nicholas Day every year on December 6th and has for generation after generation. For my own kids on this holiday each year I buy them an ornament. I have always bought their ornaments at Tannenbaum- 10 years now. This year I go up and the cashier made conversation about the fish ornament I bought. I say, "Yeah, my daughter's going to love it, I'm giving it to her for St. Nicholas Day on Friday!". The cashier says, "Oh great, another made up holiday like Kwanzaa." I say nothing. She then asks if it's a day "for giving presents early". I say, "Actually it's a European holiday that's been celebrated for hundreds and hundreds of years celebrating St. Nicholas." The cashier says, "I prefer to celebrate Jesus."
I decided to call the manager after I left because why would this type of cash register conversation be appropriate or relevant? The cashier answers the phone. I ask to speak to the manager. She says she is the manager. I say, "Okay, as the manager I'm confused as to why you would want to insult people's family holidays". She says 1) I'm being petty and 2) she isn't comfortable and hangs up the phone.
Never going back there again. I don't understand why this cashier/manager thinks she can say what she wants regardless of whether it makes the customer uncomfortable, but I can't give her one sentence of polite feedback without her being able to handle it. I was expected to figure out my way through the conversation she put me in and managed just fine. I could have/should have walked out and not bought anything had I been as unable to handle her comments as...
Read moreUpdated after response from owner - 10/15/2020: Owner is claiming that I misinterpreted that none of the workers were wearing masks and that the 80+ year old woman didn't awkwardly start talking about how the government is controlling us after a comment about how my wife looked beautiful despite the mask. Updated review to two stars because that is such a bizarre response.
Original review - 10/13/2020: My wife and I usually come here every year. However, we had the strangest interaction today with one of the older women making odd comments about government control because of mask wearing.
None of the workers here wore masks, for those who care about that. It's a shame, this place has been a staple of Omaha for a long time, but we probably...
Read moreI LOVE THIS SHOP!! I could spend lots of money in here. Two reasons: 1) Everything I like is expensive. 2) I like practically everything in the store! I enjoy decorating for the holidays. I am from out of town and only make it to the Old Market in the Fall. Therefore the only holidays I ever see being sold are Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I can't tell you if they sell anything else. I have never seen so many ornaments being sold in one place. My mind wants to buy several but my budget says no. Some are inexpensive and some are pricey. They have a huge variety to choose from. For a smaller shop, they have tons of items. I highly recommend this store. It's just across the street from The...
