I have never really shopped at Style Encore before as a Onalaska resident of 14 years. But due to my new job in April, I have been going there since. Well, with the 5th year anniversary today, I thought that I would be treated like a loyal customer as I go in almost every 3-4 weeks to look at the great deals and fashionable merchandise. My previous experiences are that I don't get greeted while walking in. I have only been offered twice for assistance to a fitting room. Otherwise, it's a like a typical Sears or JC Penney service.
In my previous 20 years of customer service experience and 8 years in retail management, I never thought I would be treated this way. I have always been taught of the 10 Tile Rule to ALWAYS GREET a customer walking in the door. I was always taught to aknowledge the customer and ask what I can help with. I have always been taught to check out a customer as soon as they are at the register to help them get on their way.
Today was by far my worst experience as I attended the 5th year anniversary store event. I wasn't greeted like usual even though there were 2 or 3 associates at the registers. Employees walked past me even though I had about 10-17 items in my hand. Went to the fitting room to try on and left with about 5 items. I went to purchase my items at the registers and that is where I should have walked out.
There were three customers ahead of me who were all together making one purchase. Once the cashier in a blue denim button up completed their transaction, she left to the end of the registers where the customer drop off area was and ignored me.
There was also two other employees at the drop off area, the store manager and two associates were chit chatting away. I noticed one of the associate in a black top with blonde hair had seen me at the register but looked away and chit chatted with the store manager. They called out the 1:00pm winner for a gift card but proceeded to not see me. I had already laid my items to be checked out but no help. They all saw me but didn't acknowledge me nor help me. I stood for a few minutes until the employee in the black top finally realized I needed to purchase my items.
I know I could have said something but I wanted to wait and see what would happen next. I have read most of the reviews before shopping here and they state a great customer service. I wish it was true to me as I have never really gotten that feeling.
I WILL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN due to the bad customer service experiences that I have received multiple times. Was it because I was Asian? Or was it because I dressed not to their standards and that is why I have been mistreated? Who knows but no matter the color of my skin or what I wear, I should be treated equally and have a great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming to this store for several years and have always loved everything about it. I've had 2 style sessions when Heather worked there and she pushed me out of my comfort zone. The prices are usually reasonable and the staff always greeted me with a warm welcome, told me about any deals and made sure to take my loaf of clothes to a fitting room so I could continue to browse with ease. The last two times I have been here, I have not been greeted by anyone. Instead, I have listened to young girls talking smack about their co-workers behind their backs. I have walked around carrying a load of clothes and nobody offered to put them in a room for me. I had to track down someone and ask for a room and then I felt like I was being a nuisance. Instead of, "Sure, I'd be happy to help," the response was "Mmhmm." That was it. She never asked me how many items I had or came to check on me or anything. I said thank you and her reply was, "mmhmm." I was so annoyed by the staff and experience that I left empty-handed. I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and was excited to be shopping for clothes to pack. Instead, I left feeling angry and frustrated and came home because it killed my mood. I understand that good help is hard to come by these days, but it doesn't take a lot to just be helpful and kind. Nobody wants to hear you talking bad about other people, especially your co-workers. I hope that management can have a talk with these girls about being professional because people listen and when you don't feel like your business is appreciated, they certainly aren't doing you any favors. Update: Within hours of posting this review, the owner reached out to me, thanking me for posting this review and plans to use it for further education and training of staff. This goes to show the integrity of this store and the pride that the owner takes in it. Style Encore has been my favorite place to shop locally and will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāll reiterate what I stated in my Yelp review: amazing store and employees. Iām from the northern suburbs of Chicago: resale and consignment stores are beyond difficult to navigate. Iāve spent well over a decade both selling and buying. When I rave review a store, I truly mean it.
As far as price complaints: not sure I get it. While waiting on my selling quote, I asked to see a Gucci purse that was absolutely pristine. As in, not a single blemish. Expensive: perhaps. Itās subjective as it is a far cry from what it retails for. Whatās more: if I found a designer purse of this quality - near me - it would be three times the cost.
As far as selling is concerned, I wish I would have come here MUCH sooner. What I was quoted for my items - in cash - was better than I could even hope to get on eBay or Poshmark. Iāve sold/purchased on both platforms, for the record.
Resale selling is just that: a percentage. Again, itās subjective to quality/style/trend/designer/brand. Like most things in the fashion world, it changes rather quickly.
Tip: I was once told - by a consignment shop owner - that the best thing you can do is āclean outā once every 6-10 months. This will give you the best chance of maximizing profit. Beyond a year, most fashion is considered outdated (think, Devil Wears Prada - Meryl Streepās āMiranda Speechā). Save for some vintage. Keeping clothing pristine will add another layer to...
