Spark by Hilton La Crosse Onalaska — Hotel in La Crosse

DO NOT STAY HERE!! They charged me $125 to cancel a reservation that was over 2 weeks away!

The front desk staff and the General Manager were incredibly rude and unhelpful. I needed to cancel a reservation due to family emergency over 2 weeks before I was due to arrive and they insisted that I need to pay $125 one night cancellation fee!! This is robbery!

The woman who answered the phone, was rude and blatantly lied to me, telling me that they weren't authorized to rescind the fee and that I needed to call Hilton. I told her I had just called Hilton directly and they told me I needed to call the local hotel. She laughed and said "Oh yeah, that's what we told them" I then asked to speak to her manager, who I could hear her talking to in the background, She told me he was busy and then put me on hold for 15 minutes and before the line cut off. I called back and was hung up on again! I then called again and finally talked to the General Manager, Tushar Patel, who told me there was nothing he could do and that he didn't understand the Hilton policies or why I was being charged and tried to tell me I was being charged because I booked through another website, even though I used hilton.com and my Hilton...

For a Hilton name I was disapointed. Rooms were not deep cleaned for some time. Im on the second floor. Windows were smeared and had prints on them. Ring around bathroom drain was was surrounded by mildew. Extra small fridge, no microwave in room. It does have an ironing board and iron. I was diapointed with the pool room and do not want to change swimming. I do not know alot about pools, but usully Hotels pools and hot tubs smell like clorine bleach. There is zero present clorine smell. The pool looks clean but has a fowel smell in the room reminds me of a gym, locker room which is hot, humid with strong funky body oders. Breakfast offered cereal like at home, you poured with a gallon of milk which was tipped to side to fit in fridge. Small individual strawberry yougert, bagel your choice of individually packed creamcheese, peanut butter, butter, juice from juice machine, individually wrapped muffin. Do NOT stay at this hotel unless you travel with your own cups. This hotel is too cheap and incompetent to provide plastic cups so you can rinse your mouth after brushing your teeth in the bathroom. While on the topic of the bathroom, the light switch was absolutely disgusting (see photos). The “new” headboard was ripped on one side and had greasy hair stains on the other. From a security standpoint, the exterior 1st floor door by the pool would not close and was left open all night. Upon checking out, I asked to speak to the manager (Mona) who made excuses and did nothing to address my concerns. They have a “Make it Right” guarantee right on the check in desk, that they might as well throw it in the garbage. As a Hilton Gold member, I expect a certain minimal standard .
