There is a tremendous amount of wonderful historical items here, and everything seems to be laid out where I'm guessing the time periods are similar. The staff is also very friendly and the museum is very clean and the air conditioner works wonderfully. They should also be noted that entrance is free and there is plenty of free parking nearby.
My only small complaint is a lot of these items. Just don't have a description so I would be looking at something and I'm just not too sure what it is or what it's historical significance is or was. Read moreTravelers, this is a wonderful local history museum. We learned so much about Opelika from spending an afternoon in this museum. There is so much information packed into each space be sure not to miss anything. The museum guide when we were there was knowledgeable and gave us a tour of the museum. Go and uncover the long and glorious history of this bucolic train town. I was amazed to learn that at one time Opelika was so dangerous, way back in the 1800s, folks on the train passing through town had to duck so the folks in the downtown saloons wouldn't shoot at them. I touched a DP magazine, I didnt see the little do not touch sign, she came up and said dont touch the stuff, I apoligised, then she grabbed them and took them away like she was mad and or thought id touch them again.
