During an unplanned road trip in October 2023 to witness the changing leaves, we had the pleasure of discovering the Heritage House in Opelika, AL. This charming bed and breakfast completely transformed our perception of accommodations, and we can't wait to share the wonderful experience we had.
My wife and I stumbled upon the Heritage House after exploring Providence Canyon State Park in Lumpkin, GA. Typically, we opt for chain hotels, but this stay has truly redefined our preferences for the future.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed with exceptional hospitality. The check-in process was seamless, and Dani, the owner, made us feel right at home. She led us to the elegant Carriage Suite, which was beautifully decorated, setting a tranquil tone for our stay. The separate parlor with a private entrance to the side porch was a delightful addition, allowing us to enjoy a serene evening outdoors.
Dani's attention to detail was evident throughout our stay. The coffee maker was thoughtfully prepared for the morning, and the mini-fridge was stocked with a variety of chilled beverages. Additionally, the room was equipped with a microwave and an assortment of snacks, ensuring that our every need was met. The king-size bed was incredibly comfortable, and the quality of the pillows and linens exceeded our expectations.
What made our stay even more special was the fact that we were the only guests during our visit. We took the opportunity to explore the other uniquely decorated rooms in the house, and each one was a work of art in itself. We genuinely believe we would have been just as comfortable in any of them.
For dinner, we followed Dani's recommendation and dined at Zazu Gastropub in downtown Opelika. The meal was nothing short of exceptional and left us thoroughly satisfied.
The following morning, Dani's husband, Lief, served us a delectable breakfast. Fresh assorted fruits with yogurt, French toast topped with assorted berry compote, and biscuits with orange marmalade were a culinary delight. We left the Heritage House well-rested and with full bellies, ready to seize the day.
Our stay at the Heritage House was a truly memorable experience, and we left with nothing but warm memories. If we ever find ourselves in the Opelika area again, there's no doubt we'll be returning to the Heritage House. Moreover, we're eager to explore more bed and breakfasts during our future travels, all thanks to this exceptional stay. Our heartfelt thanks to Dani, Lief, for making our stay so...
Read moreWe just spent a couple of nights at Heritage House in Opelika while moving our son into his apartment for his sophomore year at Auburn, and I can honestly say it was the best lodging decision we’ve made since he started school.||Heritage House is a gorgeous 1913 home that’s been turned into a boutique bed-and-breakfast, and the place is immaculate. Every room—from the parlors to the dining room—feels like it’s been lovingly cared for. The decor hits that perfect balance between historic charm and real comfort. It’s not fussy or overdone, just beautiful and inviting.||Our room was extremely comfortable, the bed was fantastic, and we slept like rocks. In the morning, breakfast was served in an elegant dining room that made us feel like guests in a grand old home, not just visitors passing through. The owners, Leif and Dani, were incredibly attentive and communicative about check-in and anything else we needed, without hovering.||The location is also a big win. You’re in the heart of historic downtown Opelika, which is full of great restaurants, bars, and shops, all within walking distance. We wandered into a beautifully curated vintage vinyl store and had an outstanding dinner at a nearby gastropub—both just steps from the front door. And it’s only a short drive to Auburn, which meant we could enjoy the game-day energy when we wanted to, then escape the crowds and relax in peace.||We’ll definitely be booking here again for football weekends, parents’ weekend, and eventually graduation. If you want a place with real character, comfort, and...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for the weekend after our COVID-altered wedding in July. If you’d have told us back in January that we’d be honeymooning in Opelika Alabama we’d never have believed you! But our stay at Heritage House was wonderful, and Dani and Leif were fantastic. We stayed in the Garden Suite. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, and the bathroom charming. The light in the entire suite was absolutely gorgeous from all the windows, and it worked perfectly with the color scheme, live plants, and antique/antique-inspired furniture and bedding. It measured up to the prettiest places we have stayed at in historic homes and small hotels in both the US and abroad with its comfort, tasteful and interesting decor, lovely historic architecture and craftsmanship, and thoughtful details in both the private rooms and public areas. Leif and Dani were very helpful with ideas of what to do in the area, and so nice and congratulatory on our wedding. We hadn’t mentioned it when we booked, and when they found out they surprised us with a sweet note, chocolates, and sparkling cider for our room. We felt very good about the COVID precautions they took, and were very comfortable during our stay, both physically and mentally. Breakfast each day was scrumptious. On one morning Dani let us try a pineapple bread pudding recipe she was testing for future breakfast use, and it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be checking room availability at Heritage house any time we are in the...
