A reservation was made for dinner at 5:30 for 2 people. My daughter came with me which made 3 people. The minute my friend came in to be seated, she was made to feel like we were such an inconvenience because we had 3 people instead of 2, albeit, we were being seated at a (4 topper) table. The very young hostess talked down to her as if she were scolding her for having 3 people and how were were going to interfere with the next reservation set to arrive after us. First of all, when you make a reservation, as a customer you make it for a time to arrive, not a time to end the meal. This setting the tone for the entire meal was an understatement. If I am the Manager, this young lady would have been fired on the spot. No questions asked. She obviously felt entitled to warrant this behavior and showed such a lack of respect for a two customers that frequent this establishment regularly. The next act of behavior was by some Manager on staff, a female with zero personality. We were basically being made to leave because of the next reservation coming in after us. Might I add, if there was no availability for us to eat initially, or it would interrupt the next party, then why did they accept our reservation??? GREED comes to my mind because my bill alone was over $100.00 for 2 people. I spoke directly to this female Manager working the floor and explained that my daughter was finished with her meal before the two of us. That having her dine in tonight was by no means an inconvenience or in any way put this restaurant out. I also let her know that this is how you lose customers that will not be back. Her concern was a total lack of any to say the very least Has is really come to this where people have zero care? They feel entitled to say or do however they please. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The attitudes of the higher ups trickle down and influence the behaviors of the ones working under them. Sad but true. I can purchase great fish or steak, stay home, grill my own food, drink my own beverages and never have to be subjected to this type of behavior. In so many words, I will not miss these people. You notice I never mentioned the food. Good food and sour folks is not a winning combination. Some of the folks at Zazu could definitely use a heart transplant and learn to treat others like they would like...
Read moreFantastic casual date night spot. I brought my wife here for dinner and we could not have enjoyed it and each other more. The atmosphere is a perfect combination of laid back pub and sophisticated bar. It was quiet when we went at 4 pm on a Wednesday. We had the famous Poutine which is absolutely to die for. We could have made a meal of the fries alone. I had the short rib French dip and it was spectacular. The onions are sweet topping to a perfectly put together melt in your mouth short rib sandwich. The au jus is the perfect finish to this amazing sandwich. The salad is such a perfect fresh acidic side to the richness. My wife had the Opelika Hot Brown. Wow. This sandwich deserves an award. The shaved pork loin on the sandwich has a consistency not that of meat. The gravy and fried egg on top make you question how you have existed before this sandwich experience. The Manhattan clam chowder is out of this world. It is a sweet tomato base with lots of veggies and tender clams with a nice spicy kick at the end. This was one of the best meals we have enjoyed together and Brook took fantastic care of us. We could not have asked for better laid back, attentive service. She was very helpful and explanatory of the menu options. She offered samplings of anything we might be interested in. This was a great place for a laid back evening. Definitely recommend it and will...
Read moreThis place is super cool. The atmosphere is casual and chill, yet upscale enough to be a great place for a date night dinner. My husband and I ate here for our 10 year anniversary dinner and it was a very nice experience.
They serve a lot of local produce, which is really cool. We had poutine from the appetizer menu, a steak dinner served with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus, and bread pudding for dessert (we shared all of these dishes). He drank tea, and I ordered a craft beer (they offer a lot of different craft beer choices as well). Our tab was around $50 before tip.
They opened the door for us as we walked in, and the service was great from start to finish. Our server, Alexa, was knowledgeable about the menu and the beer selection, and was kind and attentive.
My favorite thing about Zazu, even more than the delicious steak and some of the best bread pudding I've ever had, is the decor. I absolutely love the industrial style exposed brick and the tasteful combination of wood, concrete, and metal. I wish my house looked like this place. I went to the restroom twice, first to wash my hands, and second to take pictures of the restroom because it was so beautiful!
If you are in the area, eat at Zazu. The food is excellent, and it's just a cool...
