My past positive experiences with Oregon City Appliance brought us back for another repair job.
This time it was a domino of errors. The owner "helped" us to order the "right" part. There was no silver serial number code, only a sticker with four models. I asked if this was the right one, how would we know this was the right one . . . don't you need measurements on the freezer???
When the freezer seal arrived, it did not even look close to the right size. I was told to not worry, just take it home and put it in a bucket of warm water and the seals stretch.
No they don't. I called, and he told me to use a hair blow dryer . . . it will help to expand.
No it didn't.
In the end, we took it back. The receipt says, 15% restocking fee. We knew that. But the owner said it was a speciality part and couldn't be returned. (I wonder if he just sold another wrong order to us, and stuck us with the wrong part?? I'll never know.) They "tried" to return it, but after 3 months, we returned and just picked up our seal.
So, we are stuck with a $90 Amana seal. We ended us taking the measurements, the code on the door, found the right seal in about five minutes with Sears on-line and ordered it. Perfect.
We notified BBB and the appliance store refused to respond to the BBB. They are on bad standings now with the BBB.
Just finished sharing this story with another repairman from Oregon City, not trying to fix our dryer . . . and he just laughed. Seems we are not the first to have problems.
Please double check what you are ordering. If you know EXACTLY the part, you will get great service. We enjoyed our past dealings, but will not return after this last series of...
Read moreYears and years ago standing in the frame of my washing machine, I realized I couldn’t “super woman” this problem and the care guide for the washer was useless as were the on line helpers. In desperation I called a friend and got Bobs number. I placed the call and he walked me through the trouble shoot and had me put the phone to the machine. After listening to it for less than a minute, he told me it was the transmission. Since that time Oregon City Appliance has been my go to. No cheap big box trips any more for me. Not only do you get the parts you need but you get customer service that just isn’t seen any more. They even carry burner replacements for the stove. Flash forward to the present. I moved to the Oregon Coast 5 years ago and thought what am I going to do without Bob. Sure enough the Refrigerator stopped working properly. I spent hours combing through the manuel’s, talked with people I know and on line. I desperation I called Bob. Immediately, after I explained what it was doing, he told me what was wrong, ordered the part and offered to walk me through installation. I was a little skeptical about my abilities ( This involved electrical connections) so I called a friend who was an electrician to install the part. When he got into the project he ran into a glitch we called Bob and he walked it through for my friend. The refrigerator is still working. The bottom line is: if you are a do it yourselfer like me, use...
Read moreSeems like a decent guy and pretty knowledgeable, but not just about parts and appliances. He’s a salesman, that’s for sure. The same parts you’d find on Amazon for dirt cheap, the owner charges double to quadruple the price. I get it, he probably makes a decent killing from reselling but that’s not the issue. It’s how he lied to my face and said how “pricey” a certain part was when it’s objectively not and he knows it...
He takes advantage of people’s lack of knowledge and, judging by the reviews, people are pretty unaware of it but having said all that it’s a good place to go to if you need an emergency repair. The good thing is, if you need a part, he’s got it. It’s not like he’ll ever be out of stock... all he has to do is order them off Amazon to resell for crazy prices! Would be an easy 4/5 if it wasn’t for the...
