Snows Home and Garden — Attraction in Orleans

I'm reducing from five stars to two stars. That is based on the drastic changes in inventory and display, and I will likely revisit, as I'm reviewing the store that was, rather than is. I'm not even going to mention the extreme disgust I experienced upon seing the festive selection of artificial Christmas trees, when Halloween decor should just be starting to appear... The good values and customer service which Snows is famed for remain excellent, but this is not the store it was. Snows used to be a very deluxe hardware store; now it's little more than Barbo's Furniture with small appliances. I realize that times change and businesses, to stay successful, must follow, but today I made the trek to Orleans, secure in the knowledge that Snows would have what I need. They didn't. The hardware section, always quirky and yet encyclopedic, has been gutted, and mostly replaced with tasteful rugs and mats suitable for any condo. The stationery section is gone and likewise 90% of the once extensive hobby and toy section. Even the paint department seems drastically reduced in scope. My family has been a good customer of snows for decades. Always a must place when looking for HomeGoods, and garden items. Unfortunately, the once solid store has lost its customer focus/customer support. Today I was bringing back a corkscrew that we had purchased at snows at least a year ago but never used. When we went to use it this year it did not work, therefore I brought it back for replacement. After a half hour of looking in the system to look for the purchase of the corkscrew, they could not find record of it. They then brought the manager over who very curt and nastily said “That’s an old sticker we’re not taking it back… no, not taking it back!” I said you can that it was purchased here and I just want a replacement. The nasty response I received was”That’s a red sticker, and we’re not taking it back”. At that point I said well you just lost a loyal customer, and her comment was” Oh well!” So disappointing to see the star word of a store go downhill to this level. They certainly don’t care about...

Snows is THE most amazing home supply/ hardware/ everything store on the Cape! In the summer, they have all the outdoor furniture and gardening supplies that one could possibly need. They also carry many different grills and grilling supplies. If you are looking for that hard to find gadget for the kitchen, search no more! They also have a great selection of cast iron pans. Paint, beautiful brass door knockers, batteries, whatever you need for your home, they have! But if you want a truly special treat for the little ones at Christmas, come to Snows! The train setup is awe inspiring and a delight for young and old alike. Plus, their selection of ornaments is out of this world. I get all of my holiday supplies here and before Christmas all is usually at 50% off! So, summer or winter, Snows always has something of value...
