My first time eating there was on a busy crowded weekend. I was underwhelmed by the Bahn Mi. On my wife's insistence, we returned on a quiet weekday afternoon. I was deeply satisfied by the tender pork chop and seared still crisp vegetables that were draped in a still runny fried egg over fluffy rice. This had the feel of a warm childhood comfort food that satiated my non-Midwestern winter grumpiness. I stopped short of licking the plate clean of all the melded flavors and sauce. My wife ordered the hotdog special topped with a fresh papaya salad that elevated the simple Frank into a filling and pleasant surprise of flavors. The staff was very friendly and attentive. When a kitchen issue delayed one of the entrees, the staff member came and apologized offering us appetizers to make amends. The Brussels sprouts that followed were roasted to an enjoyable savory leaf curled crunch while maintain a tender moist bite enfolding the sweet spiced chili sauce into each sprout. The Crab Rangoon, were Crab Rangoon... I mean, who doesn't like a fried cream cheese treat?!? We left very happy and full, looking forward to...
Read moreAnousone is a rare Star of a restaurant here in Kansas City. The staff is attentive, competent and friendly, and every dish they put out is made and served with professionalism and care. The chef has far exceeded an expectation of simple hospitality to something better- the food and the service feels like being welcomed home. The fried Brussel sprouts were perfectly balanced and crispy with a touch of sweetness. The khao poon was very rich, the perfect dish to warm you up on a cold morning. The star of the show was the whole fried Branzino special, served with rice and stir fried veggies and a smoky-sweet soy sauce. With the Crème brûlée to top things off, this was a meal fit for kings. Whether you need a place to impress out-of-town guests or a place to relax and warm up, Anousone is the...

Since I didn't want any seafood/meat with it, I appreciated that they gave me a slight discount on the $16 meal, though it still feels pretty pricey for a fast casual/food hall location. I hadn't realized that it was a japchae-inspired dish so that was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting so much good Asian-inspired cuisine in KC, so I'm happy that they exist! It was pretty tasty, though it didn't blow my mind. I would definitely come back to Strang Hall to try some of the other eateries here, and I'd be open to ordering from Anousone again too! Several other people in my party ordered from Anousone as well, though they had a less favorable impression of the bun rice noodle bowl and hearty yellow curry, so your...
