#BoycottMGMNationalHarbor - My wife, our two children, and I went to a Cher concert at the MGM National Harbor theater on Tuesday night (2/20/2018). The four of us had four individual tickets at the orchestra seating section. We checked everywhere, including messages on the tickets, that children werenât allow at the concert. The theater door opened at 7pm, we checked around with the security guards, ushers, and tickets collectors. They all said that children are allowed, as long as they had their own tickets. The staff attendants even tagged and put away our strollers.
We sat in our assigned seat until the concert began around 8:35pm, everyone jumped up and cheered for this epic performer, Cher. Our toddlers joined in and became just as excited as our patrons. Shortly afterwards a group of three stood in front of us, uncertain if they had found their seats. They decided to sit, still seemingly uncertain if they had found their designated seats. One of the two ladies from the group quickly told us that are kids didn't belong there and that we should leave. My wife replied that if it was such a problem she should consider leaving. As Cher began speaking to the audience, our toddlers were in our laps, embracing us while saying "mommy...daddy". The lady reached out to a young couple in front of her and began asking others to support her in countering our presence. Again, the lady told us to leave and that we were being rude. My wife replied telling her she was the one being rude. The lady then threatened us with "This is going to end badly for you" and proceeded to stand up and walk out of the row while the man in the group continually stared me down. During this entire encounter the patrons surrounding us reached out to us and insured us that there was nothing wrong with our presence. Shortly after her return, MGM security asked us to depart our seats as we were being reported to be disruptive and that they would find another section for us to sit in. We quietly exited as requested, expecting to clarify the incident with management and to identify our new seats. Again, it's also important to note that we had been sitting in our assigned seats for OVER AN HOUR prior to this problematic group without incident or complaint by either our patrons or MGM staff.
Once in the lobby, my wife (a loving 38-year-old woman) begins to cry hysterically, as the experience of being abruptly pulled from our seats and now having to stand in the lobby while MGM staff and management huddled. While initially in the lobby as the majority of staff began to huddle a patron from inside the theater approached a staff member to inform them that my family did nothing wrong in the theater and asked what was going to be done with the disruptive lady left in the theater. The staff member calmed the patron advising him that a solution was being formed to have us relocated. I was approached by management/staff then asked for my tickets and if I had paid for them. I felt discriminated because I am Asian and my wife is Hispanic, and neither one of us looked nor dressed like the majority of the audiences. I never witnessed that they ask any other non-standout patrons to pull out their tickets.
We believe that the MGM staff/management LIED to us regarding whether children are allowed in the concert. Know the nature of toddlers! If children are not allowed, please let us know in the beginning and not during the middle of a concert. If children are permitted, stick to that rule, and tell other patrons that these children have the right to be there just like anyone else. You canât change or make-up the rules as you go.
We also believe that MGM staff/management LIED to us about the promise of relocating us to different seating to gain our initial cooperation and to calm our supportive patrons. MGM staff/management never in our presence verified that the problematic group of three were ever sitting in their appropriate seats, but instead we were asked to leave our...
Read moreWent to see Dwight Yoakam. Everyone in the theater was freezing cold, uncomfortably. We went to the Manager and explained the situation. They noted that people have been complaining all night and are working on it. âIt should be better in 10-30 minutesâ. Fine it was a 3 hour show, so rough it a little longer. An hour later the air conditioner was still freezing everyone out. Couldnât find the original âmanagerâ and was pointed to someone different. This person noted that there was nothing they could do about it. âWe canât just make an emergency call to turn the air downâ - despite of all the complaints and shivering folks- this is no exaggeration. I finally asked, well if we see empty seats in another spot thatâs not directly under the air conditioner, can we move to them. We were told no, we canât move to another seat we didnât pay for, despite them being empty, and ~40 minutes left of the show and knowing how uncomfortable we were. I was directed to security who I asked the same question. I was told â if you would have told us earlier maybe, but not nowâ. I explained I made an initial complaint where I was assured it would be rectified. He said there wasnât anything he could do - despite having he authority to do literally what I asked. Ultimately I went back to my seat and continues in one of the most unfortable settings a 300 dollar ticket can buy.
I understand that every concert, there is probably one guy complaining about one thing and they have to make managerial decisions -canât always get what you want. This, I cannot stress however, was their (MGM management) decision to keep hundreds of concert goers, uncomfortable, knowing the situation and level of complaints. 300 dollars to not enjoy the show. Weâll...
Read moreDISCRIMINATION DISCRIMINATION DISCRIMINATION Crushedâšď¸ Came to MGM Theater, to see George Lopez with my husband & service dog. Iâm in a wheelchair and visually impaired. Husband ordered âaccessibleâ tickets online, and even called to confirm. Our 1st seats- third level, center of theater, accessible for wheelchair transfers. Great view, Yay! We sat comfortably for approximately 10 minutes. Our 2nd seats- We were moved because we were an âinconvenienceâ to other patrons, coming in and out of the isle. (More like my well behaved service dog and I) But worded as âother seats would be easier for the wheelchair.â For ME?đĄ NO!!! (The Wheelchair incidentally, was folded and put away where the usher had directed.) The head usher, INDICATED that we were being moved to the suites on the 2nd level. But after several up/down elevator rides and weaving thru crowds, we were then handed off to a different usher and then put at SIDE-BALCONY BAR seating. Not even regular seats! What the hell?!? Ummm ...VIEW??? NOT. Complete obstruction! BS MGM! Additionally, a 2nd floor Usher, walked thru a door when he very well KNEW I was coming behind him, and neglected to even THINK of holding the doorS for me. When I confronted him, he pretended to have not seen me. After he had nodded at both me and my husband before hand, when passing us. #discrimination #norespect #leftbehind đŞ #HURT âšď¸ And now I canât even post the difference in pictures as proof! Google says Iâm the ONLY 1 star review, but if you look, there are...
